When you go to a section that requires typing, the keyboard will appear on the device. Go to web search for example. Navigate to the section where you type a message and hit enter. The keyboard should show up on your phone. Hope this helps.

it works for me... go to URL text box and press enter... the input text keyboard should appear...

Turns out the iPhone app works fine, and a kepad opens on your device when to navigate to a text box. I should try it on a Samsung Galaxy as well, just to compare.

ps if your iPhone/iPod is in the cradle at the time, it's not exactly a remote control any more. What to do......

i know if you open youtube in browser it works fine but when i open youtube app provided by samsung the keyboard does not come up.

Samsung needs to pay attention to key comments in this blog because the "Smart TV" is not as smart as they would like it to be. I hope they read my comments here.

The iPhone keyboard is only available for web browsing. YouTube and Skype (did not check Twitter and Facebook) do not have access to the iPhone keyboard. So the Application is lacking consistency, which also makes it harder to use by certain users.

In order to lift up the quality of the Smart TVs, Samsung needs to find solution(s) that make the smart features usable, otherwise it will be regarded as a gimmick and maybe lag behind competitors. It would be easier to upgrade the iPhone application to cover for all the missing functionality as it is already developed to an advanced level and is usable.

I still think that an off the shelf bluetooth mini keyboard with built-in mouse (see my earlier comment a few days ago) is a very useful option to have for all users (including iPhone Remote Control users). I would get a keyboard if the feature was working because the Samsung IR Remote control works much better than the iPhone application. Remember that the iPhone application disconnects itself from the TV every time the TV is turned off or the application is closed so there is always a need to restart the Remote application.

I've read all of the comments here regarding the need for a full size wirelss keyboard for the 6900 smart tv. I totally agree!! I'm disappointed that there isn't one. Get busy Samsung! Your Smart TV isn't complete until you build one.

Id buy either to be honest, anything to actually be able to use the web browsing functionality of the platform. The browser itself is great and works perfectly, but the interface is like jumping back to the days before the internet even existed!

I have been researching (online/stores) smart TV's for purchase with different manufacturers.
A dizzying array of features/options.
I have bought nothing yet.!.. I have my hard earned bucks in my hand...waiting...

Smart TV provides higher level of functionality to the user.
This functionality needs a higher level of user interaction.
This means that a better user interface is needed. A remote control is not enough... enough to reconsider chosing a manufacturer providing what I want.

Do you go to the amusement arcade and select a racing car game with left-right buttons to steer the car... no... you chose the one with the steering wheel... better realistic experience...

I want to experience visually pleasing internet/network content on a TV with high visual quality. To do this I need to give instructions to the TV to fetch this content.
During my research I have found that Philips smart TV's have an interface for controlling the TV via options of wireless keyboard, smart-phone or tablet.

I live in Europe-Ireland so I am not sure if Philips TV's are retailed outside Europe.
I continue my research...

Eureka...I now have an option to put the smart into the TV. This wil linfluence where I will spend my hard earned bucks. The pendulum is swinging away from Samsung... unless I re-consider smart-TV totally...

Whats a smart TV without a keyboard...disabled.

A couple of months ago, I met a Samsung rep at a Costco store . As I was consisering a D6500 (55" LED), I asked about a keyboard that could be used with this model. He whipped out a fancy remote/keyboard out of his bag and showed me what Samsung offers. However, he suggested I consider the Revue by Logitech. He said it's much more ergonomically friendly.

I eventually purchased a D6000 with a dongle from a competitor (better deal) because I felt the picture quality and the prce was a no-brainer. After I installed everything (AV receiver, speakers, BR player, VCR & XBox), I tried out the Smart features and agree with others that the remote input task is indeed cumbersome and somewhat of a hassle.

I then purchased a Revue and saw that this appliance was designed for HDMI input from either a cable or satallite STB. Well, I get my HD & other programming from the atmosphere; good ole OTA. So up until now, I haven't connected it because it really isn't designed for my set-up. I interpret hat the Revue makes any TV into a Smart TV but I'm not sure how this would work connected to the receiver. Although I have a hunch that the Revue's keyboard will interface well with the TV and the internet connection, thus allowing me to use the keyboard as originally intended.

This may be a solution to the wireless keyboard debachle. Before I decide to return this (haven't tried it nor opened the box), has anyone tried this product to see if it would work with Samsung Smart TV's? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Bob, I guess you may have answered my question. the keyboard enables one to easily browse (text input) and uses the apps (same as those offered from the Samsung TV), but doesn't neccessarily integrate with the Samsung TV. Am I correct?

I am a Samsung SmartTV 5500 user. I'm very disappointed on the non-keyboard/mouse issue. Without these basic functions, the SmartTV is useless, it's a joke. At this point, I unplug all network connection to the so called SmartTV, and simply use it as monitor connect to one of old laptop. That 8-year old laptop is much better than the Samsung 2011 version SmartTV.
The more fundermantal question is why Samsung is wasting time and money to work on her own TV OS, they can simply replace SmartTV OS with Google Android 3.0 system, its free and can get tons of applications. I guess Samsung want to have its own proprietary OS so as to control the users at a long run. But as users, we just plug in a $100 value second hand laptop, can get whatever we want.

Unfortunately, the web browser may be limited in features and may not run every site. I'm not aware of any changes for the browser in development at this time, however I'll be happy to post back if I hear anything new.

I've read all of the threads, here's my two cents worth.

After expending a significantly frustrating amount of time trying to surf the web with my 40 inch series 6300 tv this week, I have come to a conclusion. Trying to surf the web by using the remote is a major league waste of time.

I don't really care who's fault it may or may not be. It's a great television, but people will not surf the web with such a poorly designed interface. If this is what a smart tv is, then it's the equivalent of a legacy IBM XT or AT (see Smithsonian for pictures of antiquated arcitectures).

I understand that Samsung probably won't even consider addressing this problem and that is a shame.

I'm really glad I decided to google this issue..

You know I was supposed to buy the a UE46D8005XXE tomorrow, now I will wait until this is solved. -or find a TV that can use a keyboard...

I at the moment use a Sony 37" connected to a PC with Dvbviewer satellite software and CL and use a keyboard like this,:

It works great, but irritates me I have to start a PC to watch TV,.. and my old..( 2006) Sony looks like it's from the stoneage compared to ...

-and even a 5" Galaxy Tab is included with the TV here in Europe ( Denmark) that simply isn'nt good enough to type and move the curser around with.
And can you imagine I buy this TV and then end up hooking it up to a PC anyway?, be course I can't use a simple keyboard?
That would be like throwing money out the window..

There are 3 reasons I wanted to buy this TV.
1: It has T/T2/C/S/S2 tuner with CI
2:fantastic design
3: I don't need a PC for surfing in livingroom..

left is to buy be course of the design, be course if I ned a PC to use a keyboard I mights as well use the PC to change channel, so...

It should be SMART(er) not more complicated Samsung..
