Samsung forum: Video drop-outs ("blinking") on 2010 HDTVs

Yours is 10% and my neighbor is closer to 98.9%. If the problem was all Samsung why does it work for others? That's the mystery and we all hope for the cause to be found some day as the blinking and other problems are still there on too many maker's products.

For now, vote with your wallet and by returning what does not work for you seems best.

I've bandied about how Samsung and other makers are not supplying an end to end solution so if a piece of the puzzle doesn't work out then is it the maker's fault?

Frankly, here's my thought on this one.

Samsung needs to send out a commando crack team to investigate a few of these to develop the pattern of what's causing it. If it's the internet connection then they can show the person that that's it and hopefully develop some app to test for that issue.

But that's all conjecture here and to make matters really interesting, other things work.

This reminds me of bug in Windows (which still exist) where 'softy programmers wrote "by the book" and didn't account for the real world.

Samsung didn't write and does not maintain that app. Also, it doesn't blink for everyone and those it blinks on don't care about either point.

I can only hope that folk call both players and complain to both.

Thank you for posting this. It is unbelievable that Samsung does not think this is a problem (do they not use their own products?) but apparently they have no intention of fixing it. The fact that they address it on their site does imply that they aren't blaming it on the fact that it's "not their app."

Well, here it is December 28, 2011 and still no fix for the blackouts on Netflix with a Samsung HDTV like my LN40C560. A pity that....!

My speed is Down: 10.34 and that should be fast enough to not have any buffering delay etc.

Samsung hasn't released any firmware updates for the 2010 TVs since probably about May 2011, and at this point, I really doubt they will release anything more. I haven't followed up on it too much, but I think the problem continued with the 2011 D series TVs too. So I'm pretty sure this is the way it will be until they redo whatever is causing this issue in their TVs all together whether it is hardware or software (yearly updates to these TVs are probably minimal and reuse most of the same hardware and software).

I've learned to live with only watching SD content from netflix directly through my TV and using the PS3 when I want to watch something thats HD.

I would be more inclined to believe that most people just do not use this feature on their TV OR most people that have this problem, just don't vocalize it online or to samsung. The people that it does work for may have better network speeds in their homes, but its been proven over and over that people with sufficient bandwidth (including myself) are having this problem. You shouln't need 25+ Mbps download speeds to stream netflix. The fact that other devices such as a PS3 works with the same exact bandwidth proves this fact. But even if you assume that it works for most, you can't ignore the number of people that have had this issue...definitely not a small number.

And I'm really not sure how cable companies providing VOD services fits in to this discussion. Are you saying that VOD is an alternative to Netflix so people just need to use that and get over this problem? Or are you saying Cable companies have a motive to kill peoples bandwith so they use their VOD service instead of other online streaming services such as netflix? Either way, don't get it and seems far fetched.

I dont think the whole "industry" needs to work together to fix video-dropouts on SAMSUNG TVs during netflix playback...just Samsung.

People are not blindly saying the PS3 or another device is better than the Samsung TV just to knock on Samsung. If another device like a PS3 works perfectly on the same network using the same bandwidth, obviously that proves there is a problem with the Samsung device. If you have to tweak your router or require additional bandwidth to the Samsung TV for it to work, then again, it means there is an issue with the Samsung device.

You experiment with other equipment and try to isolate the problem. If other equipment also fails under the same conditions, then you can assume its a network issue. But if other equipment performs fine, then you can correctly deduce that the problem is with the Samsung TV....and that is exactly whats been done on this forum (and others discussing this issue) over and over again.

I actually have not encountered the EQUAL SIGN problem. But if having an EQUAL SIGN in your wifi password is a problem for the Samsung TV, then of course I would maintain that it is a samsung issue. That sounds like something they should be able to fix easily with a firmware or software update, but I'm assuming its another issue they've ignored.

Would I change it if I had the problem? Of course I would because that is a pretty easy fix and shouldn't cost me anything (except a little time updating all my passwords). But the point is, even if there is a work around, that still doesn't relieve Samsung of fixing a problem in their equipment. They should fix these issues.

Now back to the netflix video drop out issue...that one is not as easy to fix. You mentioned range of wifi not being as good on the TV. That is acceptable and I actually haven't even bothered using a wifi connection...I have the TV hardwired with ethernet. The speed test in the settings of the TV always registers a speed above 10 Mbps (I just ran it right now and got 12.6 Mbps). Streaming netflix should not be a problem at these speeds.

If it was a little trouble here or there, Im sure everyone in this thread would be more than willing to do whatever is needed. But the problem is, nothing small has been discovered that will fix this issue. Having to upgrade your internet speed tier is not a small change and would cost people more monthly. Having to update routers and modems is also no small change. But if there are setting changes, I would be more than willing to try them out. If you know of any, please post them here for everyone following this thread to try.

But after all is said and done, even if we get it fixed with settings tweaks, I would still say that this is a big enough issue that Samsung shouldn't have ignored it the way they did.

I made a new thread, but then realized there is no point in moving the discussion there. If you have a fix, please post it so everyone following this thread or people that find this thread in the future can try it out.

and have not seen any specific solutions to this problem mentioned that acutally resolved it for anyone (including myself). If you honestly have any type of realistic solution or even suggestions that may help, I'm sure the OP would be happy to update the first post with them for everyones benefit (would think maybe you could too as the moderator perhaps).

I've seen lots of posts by you stating the issue is not with Samsung and that people's networks or the netflix app is the culprit. If that is the case, I wouldn't think that there was anything specific you would need to know about anyones "setup" other than maybe their speed test results (which I've already mentioned to be always above 10+ Mbps). But if you want to know anything else specific about my setup, please let me know what that is, because I'm at a loss for what I would need to provide you. You obviously already know I have a 2010 Samsung HDTV (based on the thread title). My specific model is a PN50C7000. But again, the problem is simply the "blinking" during netflix playback on Samsung TVs, not specific to any one model.

Also, I'm not here just to rant. If that was the case, I wouldn't be pushing for you to post your solutions/suggestons for everyone. Point of the thread is to try to get help and if you have a solution, help the rest of the community. No idea why you would think I'm just "ranting" based on all of my posts so far in this thread.

I have one of the fastest internet connections in the country. I download at 55mbps and I still had the Netflix blinking problems. I think the problem is a combination of Netflix's servers being bogged down and the Samsung app. My blinking was so bad that I discontinued using Netflix instant streaming.

I cannot find video settings, can you tell me how to to where I can adjust the resolution?
