Samsung LCD TV 8500: USB Stopped Working
by KupaTrupa - 1/1/11 1:31 PM
My 8500 50" LCD TV is less than a year old, after about 6 mos. of light use. After a few months of using the USB port (with thumb drive) for movie playback (LOVED that feature!!) it mysteriously stopped working. There is power to the ports. Any thumb drive I insert (either of the two USB ports) is not recognized by the TV. Samsung serviceman came and replicated the problem. Decided it was the motherboard which he replaced. New motherboard - still no USB recognition. Wants to replace the 2nd motherboard again with a new one.
I suspect this is not a hardware issue, but a software issue. FYI, there was no initial firmware change leading to the dysfunction. It just worked one day and not the next.
Technician suggested it may be a virus transferred from my computer. Even though I'm on a Mac (with little chance of virus), I opened a brand new thumb drive in front of him, inserted it in the TV (with brand new motherboard) and thumb drive was not recognized. Virtually nil chance this is a virus-based issue.
Samsung technician and I are both in the dark. This is a critical feature of this TV for me, gotta have it or no more Samsung. Would really appreciate any leads that can help to solve this issue.
Please help?
Thanks so much,
Nauga
