Samsung forum: WIS09ABGN - 2.4Ghz only?

But it was not what I expected. It turned out the user had the router set to some EU zone and the set was in it's US settings. Because the EU has some extra channels the US set device never could see the EU set router.

It's either that or there is a stick, router issue. The problem here is that while Samsung supports the set, that stops there and you have to find support for your network.

Many of these things do not "pick up" when the SSID is hidden. I'm not saying that hiding the SSID is busted but I'm trying to dig in and see if anything I've run into can help.

I wonder if the router settings are not stock. Since someone set it to N only operation then the best speeds should be in the 2.4GHz band due to the Greenfield setting.

I re-read this entire discussion and wonder if this is really the RIGHT and OPTIMAL operation since Greenfield would and could give you the best performance at 2.4GHz (according to what I've read on this.)

The message in post 5 if I read it again tells me this stick may not be what we think it is!

If we step back, I would make bets it's not that stick. Or the firmware is old.

I think the latest firmware is dated November 3, 2010

If you look at this thread, everyone tried very hard.

After re-reading and taking a walk to ponder this and other problems I think it's the linkstick.

All,

Today I received UPS envelope from Samsung service center. Inside was a Linkstick adapter with serial number sticker scratched off. I plugged it in and found issue still there. There was no sheet explaining if they reproduced the issue, if it was fixed, why they peeled off serial number - nothing.

I called. Explained the situation. Was put on hold for 57 minutes. Call dropped. Called again. Was transfered to "executive customer service" or something like that. Lady told they sent replacement. Then transfered me to tech support "Tier 2". Again ridiculous conversation about how my router isn't transmitting 5Ghz properly. On hold again. Another person, same story. Finally they promise to transfer me again but instead hang up on me. After 2+ hrs total on the phone, I just couldn't call one more time today.

Now I can't even return it to a store because Samsung replaced brand new shiny malfunctioning stick with old scratched malfunctioning one without serial number.

I have the same problem. This Link stick is brand new. Wonder what is wrong? It only pickup the 2.4GHZ band? Why is that?

I am following this thread. I posted awhile back about this issue as my LED 7000 series can only see the 2.4ghz as well. I didn't get any responses so I will follow this one. I have the same model Linkstick adapter. Kept bugging me so I kept searching for solution and came across this thread tonight.

My router is a Netgear WNDR3700 with the latest firmware.

Just curious if you resolved your issue at this time yet? Sorry for just jumping in.

To get the Samsung adapter to work at 5GHZ, you have to turn off SWL, which stands for Samsung Wireless Link. (It's unlikely that you use the SWL feature, but check the TV's manual to confirm.) To turn off SWL, go under the TV's network settings and select the option "SWL (Samsung Wireless Link)." You likely have it set to "on." Turn it off. Now rescan for wireless networks. Your modem's 5GHZ band will show up!

I had the same problem that you had: message about SWL being on and so TV could only scan 2.4GHZ networks. So turn off the SWL as indicated above and you should be fine.

I can't believe that the Samsung technicians did not know this. I found it, after much searching, on a Best Buy tech support website.

I'm sorry that you had to return the USB stick, but hopefully this solution will be helpful to others.

Hi, I recently bought a UN46D5500RG LED TV and it came with a WIS09ABGNX dongle, I am experiencing the same issue, not being able to see my 5 Ghz router SSID. 2.4Ghz works fine though.
My router is an ASUS RT-N56U and It connects fine with my cell phone in 5Ghz.

When I found this post I rushed to my TV to try and disable the SWL option but I don't have one. It seems that my firmware is newer and simpler. I do not get the message described above either, but I am still not able to connect to my Dual-band N router in 5Ghz when I should be.

Any advise?

I understand if you can only give support for US products, actually I am in Argentina, and the TV was assembled in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina probably with components from Brasil.
I checked the Brazilian site but it is more or less the same info I already have in the manual.
The dongle is made in China and I believe is one of the mentioned earlier in the thread.
By the way I am at firmware v1012.

Regarding your suggestion of checking that the dongle is well seated in the USB port, it is, and if it weren't I couldn't possibly be streaming youtube from the SmartHub right now

Is Port 2 different from port 1 ? Actually one of the USB ports is marked "HDD". Which one should I use? I picked the top one, thinking higher is better for the signal quality.

My router publishes two SSIDs one for 2.4Ghz and one for 5Ghz, I can only see the former from the TV while a laptop and my cellphone can see and connect to both.

My intention is to keep video streaming on 5Ghz and most other net activity in 2.4. In my area 5Ghz is very clean as opposed to 2.4.

yea i read all the post got my WIS09ABGN to see the ssid for my N by turning off the SWL but cannot connect to my tv to the N 5ghz i spent bout 3 hours now reserching this issue i reconfigured my router
a duel band netgear 3300 i got when i purchased the tv and dongle.... never got the n to work...
with the dongle
the wirless has worked ok on G 2.4ghz but has always been choppy and loses the connection easy the router is 3 yards or 9 feet away from tv in the same room with nothing between walls electronics ect .... i spent the extra money for this roughter for the N duel band when i got the tv and for my laptops ect .... currently only connecting iphone and i pods wireless on the 2.4 g mode
still think N was advertised but not really an option with the samsung linkstick WIS09ABGN

if im am wrong please tell me...
one last thing im in the country so there are no other wireless networks in range and devices are only allowed to connect by mac address only no random connections...

so please help me get my moneys worth and get this configured right or admit the WIS09ABGN wont work on 5ghz N signals
