Connecting TV box to LCD monitor through DVI or VGA

Hello!
I am trying to connect my Vodafone TVbox to my Samsung 2253LW LCD monitor with 1680x1050 resolution through an HDMI cable (TVbox) - DVI (monitor).
The problem is that even showing a fairly good picture, the monitor shows a popup message saying "Not Optimum Mode. Recommended resolution: 1680x1050 60Hz".
I tried setting various image formats in the TVbox (SD 4:3, Wide 16:9, 720p, 1080i) and in all of them the message appears. I can watch TV for just 1 minute, when it becomes an all black screen with the message 'walking' across the screen.
I called to Vodafone support line and they can not help me, because apparently there are only four picture profiles available on the box(576i, 576p, 720p and 1080i).
As the image appears and is quite good, the problem is really the popup message and TV image that is shown for only 1 minute.
Is there a way to overcome this?
If I try to connect the TVbox to the monitor using the VGA port, the problem will be solved? Or it happens in both digital and analog signals?
Note1: When connecting the PC (HDMI) to monitor (DVI) everything is fine.
Note2: The TVbox is a Cisco CIS5000
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Fabio
