Samsung 3dTv picture goes blank for 1 second then comes back

Hello,

I have a Samsung PN50C80000 TV, I only watch blu-ray or dvds on it, it's connected to my blu-ray player via HDMI.

Last night I was watching a dvd then in the span of 30 mins the picture blacked out for 1 second then came back with the audio continuing TWICE! After the 2 black outs I watched the tv for another hour and a half with no more blackouts, what could have caused this problem?

SuitGuy,

It could be an issue with the cable, or the HDCP (copy protection) not being recognized by the TV. I'd try checking this symptom out, in that order, if this continues.

Does it happen on any other inputs?

I don't use the other inputs so I am not sure, like I said I only watch blu-rays or dvds, but I will flip around on the tv channels and see if it happens, what is the copy protection and how do I check it? As for the cable should I just unplug it then plug it back it to make sure it is secure or should I replace it? I just have the cable that came with my blu-ray player so I imagine its a cheap one not a high speed hdmi.

Copy protection?

SuitGuy,

HDCP is built into the TV and verifies that it's a panel to prevent copy protection.

The symptom if the TV doesn't recognize a connected HDCP device is that it cuts the video, but not the audio. That's why I'm thinking it might be an issue with the player or the cable. Unfortunately, there's no way to test it, but in some cases, swapping the cable can eliminate that.
