Samsung LN40C630 HDTV audio out port

My Samsung LN40C630 HDTV has an audio out port but it is not clear what type of cable to use to connect to this single port (it's not a set of right and left channel RCA jacks but one single jack/port) to my stereo receiver. The owners manual states "use the appropriate connector" but it does not identify the appropriate connector. I wrote to Samsung about this and was sent this reply "We are sorry to inform you that we cannot give an audio output from your TV. There is no audio output port available for this feature." This response is not at all helpful and the employee who sent the response has even less knowledge about the TV than I do. The port does exist. The owners manual does talk about it. To tell me that the audio output port does not exist is not helpful. I'm simply trying to figure out what cable/connector to use to output the audio from the TV. Thanks for any help.

I'm sorry to hear that you weren't provided a solution the first time around. I'll be happy to assist.

The appropriate connecter to connect to a receiver with an RCA port would require a 3.5mm male to RCA cable. You can plug in the 3.5mm (small headphone type of jack) into the input directly above the optical out, and then select "External Speaker" in the menu to port the audio through that cable.

Yes that does help. I have one of the Y cables you referenced and will try it out. I was concerned that if I plugged the wrong type of connector in, it would cause some problems. Your quick response is very much appreciated. It's unfortunate that this information was not included in the user manual. Thanks again for your help.

Audio out port

Would this be the same cable necessary for the LN40C530 HDTV also? And if so would I then be able to plug in a self powered subwoofer to add base to my Tv speakers?

I too was wondering about that jack. I thought that was the cable I needed and was about to have our shop make me up a few different types of RCA Y cables. Now they can just whip me up a quick fairly standard set.
I was a bit surprised to see it, because when I checked the specs before purchasing, I didn't see it listed. I was happy to see it, though. I can use my existing stereo until a Home theater system is hooked up.

Be sure you have the correct size though. I was doing the same as you and trying to use a wire that looks just like that but turns out the male end which would go into the tv is a bit smaller and doesn't fit so I have to pick one up at the store. Just be warned there are two sizes. The size needed would fit into a headphone jack on an MP3 player. That is the correct size.
