DRM appears to be the cause here. Maybe they will kill BR faster as they ready what the next big idea is.

I'm not a Samsung Fanboy, but you're expecting the hardware manufacturers to keep up with the movie houses as if there's only one guy to watch. I have two BD players, one from Sony (about 4 or more years old) and the Samsung 3600. The Sony is not an internet connected player and the last time I updated the firmware was about 2 years ago. Yet it made it to the splash video but never to the menu. It just kept cycling the video over and over. I don't blame the hardware guys.

I fault the producers of the disc; Why can't they just produce a simple disc? I see no value in putting cutting edge interactive content on the discs, darnit! I rent or buy discs for the movie, not all that other BS the producers seem so intent to put on the discs. BD-Live? Why? What a waste of time and resources! Please, please, don't encourage Paramount or any of the other guys to complicate the BD watching experience. I just want to start watching the movie. And also, no trailers, please.

I guess if there's one thing that I wish the manufacturers would provide is a "Play the Movie NOW" option, or a kill switch for all that extra garbage. And then, maybe even a "kill the offending app" option so I can play the movie.

And anyone, if you want to sell me your player for a good price, make me an offer! I'm happy with the Samsung. I make components for many of these guys, and I know many of them cut corners. Samsung has been pretty good.

Yes-was connected to Internet. Had exact same problem with "It's Complicated" Blu Ray from Netflix over the weekend. Shows splash screen then freezes. Samsung tech support now says to re-set player which means I'll have to re-enter all my settings. A real pain. Anyone else try this before I attempt it without a lot of confidence?

I had the same problem last weekend and got very little help from Samsung. I sent the blu-ray disk back to Netflix and got another. I also went back to samsung and found another trick to try. They said to unplug your internet connection to the bp3600 and Sutter Island should play. It played great. But I have had the Serenity blu-ray disk for several months and did not have any problems with bd-live until I tried to play Sutter Island. After trying to play Sutter Island Serenity would not play on my bp3600 blu-ray player. With Serenity I was asked if I wanted to load BD-Live, the first time after Sutter Island, I said yes. And the bp3600 froze. I turned the bp3600 off and tried Serenity again and said no when I was asked if I wanted to load bd-live and Serenity played with no problems.
Just unplug your blu-ray player from the internet and see if that cures the problem.

We are on our second copy of Shutter Island because it would never play on our Samsung bluray player. Reading this post saying to disconnect from the network was the fix! I'm now enjoying the movie! I won't EVER buy another Samsung item no matter how hard Best Buy pushes that company. Samsungs products have not impressed me at all.

Was your copy a Netflix disc or a purchase?

You need to turn BD live or BluRay Live off... I couldn't watch Pirate Radio on my Samsung. Turned off the option in my main bluray player settings then worked fine.

we had the same problems with a bdp s370. finally got it to work by using the component video cables instead of HDMI ... obviously not ideal, but at least a temporary fix

the bd can't play, nothing at the screen

I'd been having the same problem with several movies, including Shutter Island, on my 3600. After turning off the internet connection to the 3600, all movies including Shutter Island will play with no problem. In fact, the disks go directly to the disk menu, skipping all the previews.
