Samsung forum: Firmware v2.09 with BD-P1590 Blu-ray player

I am experiencing the same issue. Never had a problem with my player until this latest update. I tried the reset but no success. Did you have any luck with resolving this issue?

I am having the same issue with my BD-P1600. It was working fine until I performed the v2.09 upgrade. Now it will no longer play Blue-Ray discs. Regular DVDs are no problem. I have performed the reset but it made no difference. Samsung service quoted $160 to do a repair. I might as well buy a new unit for that price - I guarantee you it will be a different brand!

I've been reading thru these threads and it's quite disappointing that Samsung takes no responsibility for distributing bad firmware.

I'd had this Blu-ray player 9 months (last Thanksgiving). The recent 2.09 update caused problems. It won't even recognize the new Alice in Wonderland DVD, and freezes at the load screen when trying to view the Book of Eli BD.

I suppose I'll call Samsung tomorrow; I'd hope they'd be all over this issue.

It's great that they're releasing a newer update but why did Samsung release v2.09 in the first place?

There should be a system in place where they test proposed firmwares BEFORE they release it to the public. I did not sign up to beta-test their software.

This is unbelievable. How could you continue to link v2.09 on the BDP-1590 page? And apply the same faulty issues with others who wish "update" their player.

Please get Samsung to listen and release a newer firmware to allow us to play all of our old & new Blu-ray titles.

If this isn't resolved soon, I will be forced to get another Blu-ray player and it won't be by Samsung. Sony, Pioneer or Panasonic for me.

I'm still waiting on word from Samsung or Samsung_HD_Tech.

I burn alot of AVCHD on DVD+DL layer discs or any HD content on DVD+DL and want my BDP-1590 to be able to play them.

My unit has been acting strange since the firmware updates as well.

Sometimes it will sit there and show, LOADING on the unit screen and other times it will stick showing OPEN or CLOSE and not let me go to the menu. Then watching streams from Netflix...sometimes the timer counter does not count and a few minutes into the movie the player will freeze up.

My solution is to unplug the unit and plug it back in. But I have to do this nearly every 2nd time I use the unit.

I will never pay for this unit to be serviced and consider Samsung a waste of my money and time for building a faulty unit.

It is clear, there is nothing physically wrong with these units...it's mental! The firmware engineering department needs to be fired and refreshed with a new batch of programmers. Why not? It's not too far from not working "at all", right now! A brand new programming group can't be all bad. My guess is that Samsung is lacking the leadership managers to advance with programmable equipment...or someone in upper management did not want the programmable firm ware, in the first place. Now we all suffer like step children in a divorce case.

Samsung - you are now put on notice. Get the firm ware straightened out - or besides watching TV, you can watch how quickly your customers convert to Sony or Pioneer.

Support is still acting like they are completely unaware of the Book of Eli problem, even though it keeps coming up in 2.09 problems posted in forums. Samsung support is useless, and they don't offer a direct link to 2.08 so you can roll back.

You can google and find 2.08, which will fix the BoE problem if you can get your player to take it, but loses the features that 2.09 added.

Why they haven't realeased a fixed firmware? I can only guess that they don't give a flip.

I have the same problem. Not good. This most definitely needs to be fixed and fixed quickly.

I can understand an occasional unexpected screw up... release an update that didn't test with any problems in house but only show up in the field. But really? No way to go back to version 2.08?

First of all THANK YOU to those who are posting their problem information here. I was JUST ABOUT TO UPGRADE but will hold off now!

BAN VERSION 2.09!

C'mon Samsung! Get your act together. I had been telling all my friends how innovative Samsung is but this is the wrong kind of innovation to be known for. Who wants cutting edge electronics that are forced to die???

There is also an ongoing problem with audio clicks... but I think that was fixed in later players. I had the BD-P2500 and now the BD-P1590 and both have clicking audio problems with some titles. Was frustrated because there seemed no way to get a response.

Has Samsung grown to bureaucratic to handle it's own success? Will Sammy fix his customer's players after breaking them? Will all BD-P1590 users who upgraded firmware swear to never purchase another Samsung product? All these questions may be answered in the next week or to depending on how Samsung corporate can respond. Stay tuned...

You can't roll-back to v2.08. You used to be able to but now Samsung has removed that ability, unfortunately.

I am patiently waiting for a fix to all of our problems.

If your player stops working as a result of the firmware, my recommendation would be to send it in. I've tested the firmware on my players here at work, and even two of them at home which I updated to 2.09. I've gone through a couple of different titles with no issue.

If the firmware is the cause, call up 800-SAMSUNG and note that the problem happened after your firmware update. If you're not able to have your unit repaired, then get a transaction number and post it here and I'll see if I can assist.

I realize that there are some instances where people are having issues. I didn't say that there wasn't a problem. I said that I wasn't able to duplicate it, and I purposefully attempted to for the 20 or so posts in this thread.

I didn't downplay your experience, and in fact, I even offered to assist the previous poster in having his unit fixed if he ran into trouble with the service line.

I'm sorry some saw that as "attitude" or "ridiculous". I'm not a member of the service department. I thought that was a nice gesture to try to help where I can, considering this is a service issue.

If your unit isn't working, my recommendation is to send it in and have it repaired.
