Connecting Samsung blu-ray BD-P1600 to internet

I am trying to connect my BD-P1600 to the internet so I can watch Netflix, but I couldn't. I see the message "unable to connect please see the network setup section in manual". I have Motorolla SB5100 Surfboard modem. so I am connected to the internet with basic cable, this modem has no integrated rouuter in it. when I checked the blu-ray manual, I see that either I connect a modem with integrated router via utb cable to the LAN port at the blu-ray back, or I should have modem and router then connect them to the lan port. is that the problem? I mean if I bought a router, will that make the internet work? I see also in the manual, "for DSL users please use a router to connect". please confirm if that the problem.
or this is may be because i don't have the minimum speed of internet so it can run the netflix? I had the same setup in the past but it was a modem with integrated router and it was with higher speed internet and it was working fine.
may that be related to the network setup? I mean do I need to disable DHCP and enter ip address, subnetmask, and gateway manually?
Ps: the internet is working properly in my laptop and I have no problem in audio or vidio applications using the laptop.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. Appreciate your help.
