Is latest firmware update for BD-1600 safe?

On the Samsung website, there is a firmware update available for model BD-1600. It is version 2.08 dated March 25, 2010. Has anyone updated their player with this latest version and if so was it safe? Thanks.

BD-1600 v2.09 software upgrade - will not play DVDs

In regard to the firmware upgrading...I just upgraded the firmware for the first time since I purchased this blu-ray player from costco in 2009. Finally connected via ethernet cable and was very easy to do the upgrade (v2.09_100519_xxa)). However, now thatit is upgraded this unit Will Not Play any blu-ray dvds! Standard dvds play fine, but this is supposed to be a blu-ray player.

The previews on blu-ray discs that are not in Hi-Def, play and sometimes the main menu of the blu-ray movie comes up, but when selecting to Play or go to a scene, the unit sounds like it spinning the disc with some trouble as if not knowing where to begin reading the disc, there is clicking and loading sounds and the TV screen is black.

If anyone has any information about how to overcome this extreme problem, I will be very appreciative. I would hate to write this unit off due to Samsung engineering releasing a certain death upgrade.

Same problem on BDP3600

I upgraded our BD-P3600 to rev level 2.07 to watch Avatar. The player accepted firmware and was able to watch movie several times over two days. Each succesive time the player took longer to load a BR movie and now will not play any BR disc. Works OK on standard DVD. Tried upgrading to 2.09 and same thing.

Customer service is NO help at all and only prepared to help if I can prove the unit is still under warranty. WTH - It was working fine and now after 2 days doesn't work at all with BR. Looks like a lot of people now have bricks and there doesn't appear to be a damn thing we can do about it.

firmware v2.09 for BD-p1600

.. this one works for me. No problem playing Blu Rays after upgrade.

Korean Version of 2.10 came out last Thursday 7/15

Well, well... what do we have here?

Maybe more bugs or a fix... we will see soon enough. Apparently the non-Korean versions lag behind a bit.

The 2.09 firmware update causes almost all Warner Bros blu-rays to crash while trying to load the menu.

Samsung dismisses this as a hardware issue and says "send it in for repair, only $160."
