Samsung forum: Samsung capacitor problem

I wasn't as lucky as some. My model was about 2 months out of warranty (I was told they only fix the models from 2008 forward; mine was manufactured November 2007 even though I didn't buy it until January 2008) and had to take the set in for repair and pay for it. It was the capacitors, as expected. Samsung didn't cover the cost, but I got the set repaired as it was well worth it. I like the Samsung products and will likely consider another one in the future, even with this experience, but I will do some advance checking to see if the capacitor problem has been resolved.

Following up on my above post. Within an hour of making my claim to Samsung, a repair company had contacted me to schedule my repairs. They were completed today, for free. It was the faulty capacitor issue. It took the repair guy about 10 minutes to fix the problem and our tv is working like new. Thanks again to all on this forum!

capacitor problem (according to Samsung) from which many of the Samsung TV's have suffered, but, while
watching it the other night, it turned itself off and I haven't been able to
turn it on since even after unplugging and replugging after a sufficient wait

described in numerous online posts - red standby light on, hit power button,
click, red light off, no picture comes on, click, red light back on, and another

cover any repairs since the warranty ended after just a year, but a tech is

Just wondering if one of the possible problems may be line voltages. I see that the capacitors are rated at only 10V. If the input line voltage is high (>125V AC) this might overstress the capacitors if the voltage regulators in the power supply aren't compensating. I know that in my home in NH we had line voltages of 127V which caused problems with premature burnouts of lights, heating elements, TV components, etc. We finally convinced the power company to change out the pole transformer to lower the voltage to 115 V. No more problems.
