Samsung DLNA lack of features and bad support

by senorTV - 2/22/10 10:55 AM

Last year I was looking for a good 40" TV with DLNA in mind, so I can use HP MediaSmart server to host photos, videos, movies, etc. through a wired network.
Based on reviews, I opted for Samsung 40" series 7.

All was setup, but pause, play, FF, and RW did not work for AVIs and other files, but just some MPEGs that were recorded with a small camera.

If the content is on USB, all works just fine.

So after quite a bit of time spent online, searching for information, and asking on other forums, I finally figured I should ask Samsung.

They confirmed what was already in the manual, that the REW, FF, pause, play were not supported nor that they had information about future development in this area.

I decided to reply, and after clicking the link within email (reply to email was not possible as that was an unattended mailbox), I got to a pop-up window where the submit button caused an error.
I tried again, and then I would get another pop-up that said something like "Send email", but nothing would happen.

I would like to express my dissatisfaction with Samsung's support about its inability to have something like simple reply available to their customers.

In regards of the DLNA feature lack, if I knew this was the case, I would switch my way of thinking and seek the solution with the different setup.
I just can't grasp that in today's tech world we have super features like DLNA, yet we can't go to a washroom for the time our movie, show, whatever plays.
That why my common instinct did not tell me to go into such details when I was deciding which TV and server to buy.

Be sure you do a through research and check on all possible details in regards of what is the most important for you.

If you're already "busted" by having your hardware then be sure you do the washroom job prior sitting onto your couch. Bring water, food, whatever, "drug" your kids so they don't call you when the showing is at its 45th minute - otherwise, you'll have to watch it all over again.
