Samsung HD TV keeps turning itself on

A stange thing has started to happen with my TV (I think the model is LE40M86BD) 10 to 20 minutes after switching my TV off (standby) it just turns itself back on. I have checked all settings in the menu and I cannot see any setting that would cause the TV to turn on by itself. I thought they may be some timer setting or maybe an auto update function. Does any one have any suggestion?

Tower Zinger,

I'm not aware of anything that causes a television to turn back on. I would recommend having your unit inspected. It wouldn't be an update setting, so hopefully that helps narrow down the possibilities.

My parent's Samsung has started doing the same thing. It turns itself on... all the time. And the set is less than two years old.

Are you seeing more of this, Samsung?

Personally? I've only seen this one other occurrence, and I don't actually know what the resolution was either.

But if you could give me the model code, I could see what might cause this kind of behavior. I have a couple suspicions that I'll keep to myself at the moment.

I asked my Mom to get me the model # and serial #. She is 82, so this might take awhile. She thinks it is a Series 5 / 530540 LCD TV. I think it is a 36 or 37 " model. Does that sound right?

I read that it could be a pair of defective capacitors, a problem with the "touch controls" in the bezel, or a bad motherboard. I am lead to believe that Samsung will acknowledge and fix the first of these, but not the latter. Apparently, this issue is becoming pretty common. I saw a fair amount of chatter on it.

Let me know what you think.

Also, have you checked to see if it's simply an On Timer setting?
