Samsung screen goes blank
This does not a appear to be a TV hardware issue as mine does the same thing with the FIOS Motorola DVR. But to truly troubleshoot it, you need to connect the same DVR with the same HDMI cable to another TV that is the same model. Connecting it to an LG or Sony will not tell you anything because their HD signal implementation is likely different. I posted this question on AVS Forums and was told it's reasonable to suspect HDMI handshake problems. It happens during live viewing and during playback. The theory that it's the TV and not the DVR because it can't be replicated upon rewinding doesn't hold because if it is a sync problem, it's not going to occur again once the event has passed. The problem never occurred when I used the component cables. So it's probably some sort of condition with HDMI, the Motorola DVR and possibly HDCP. Since I don't think HDMI is all that critical with the DVR, I may switch the cable back to component. I don't think Verizon is doing anything about it because it's happening more often. Now it's almost weekly whereas before is was once every 4 weeks or so.
Personally I think the Motorola DVR is a piece of junk. The audio drops out often, it responds very slow to inputs from the remote. The software needs a lot of improvement also. It would be nice to get a full episode description when viewing the 'Scheduled Programs' screen.
If going up to a different HDMI cable is a solution, I'd like to hear from people who had success with it. Otherwise, I think it's back to component for the DVR.
