Samsung forum: HLR6768W - Right half of screen goes black

Thanks for the info an I'll call Samsung parts on Monday. According to their website the DMD board BP96-01315A is no longer available which is pretty disappointing but maybe calling directly will make a difference. I have the service manual for this TV and looking at the schematics the DMD board has 2 processors on in in a master/slave configuration. If the slave processor decides to go off into the weeds then that would explain why the right half of the screen goes black. This happens on all the video inputs as well and white screens such as the Wii menu seem to trigger this condition more than anything. If I can't get this part then I'll probably get another DLP since I need a large TV for the size of the room. Since Samsung decided to get out of the DLP market despite having superior technlogy with their LED light engine it looks like my only choice is Mitubishi these days.

I talked to samsung parts today and DMD boards for my TV are on backorder until February. The price on that is $530 and it has a $150 core. My other option is to replace the whole light engine which is $950 and it has a $350 core. So for basically $220 more I can replace all the guts and not have to deal with realigning the DMD board. Having already replaced 2 color wheels, realigned the light tunnel, and replaced the bulb in this beast I can swap the guts out in 15 minutes.
It looks like the dlp white dot issue is completely unrelated to my problem so it probably won't be covered. The DLP white dot issue appears to be a defect with the DLP chip itself, not the DMD board. Tommorow I'll call Samsung customer service and who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and my defective DMD board will be covered even though it is out of warranty.
