Auto Volume & Mode Features with External Speaker

I have an LN40A5550. It sits in a cabinet so that makes it difficult to use the internal speaker (the internal speakers point down and towards the back of the cabinet so there's an echo/reverberation effect from the cabinet). To get around that, I am currently using a Boston Accoustics external sound bar that points outward. The external sound bar is connected to the TV via an audio cable from the audio out jacks on the set to the external sound bar. We have decreased the volume of the internal speaker so we only hear sound fro the sound bar.

What I'm wondering is if the Auto Volume, Mode, and Equalizer features that are settable in the TV Menu work with the external sound bar ? Conversely, if I use an external sound bar only, do I lose these features ?

The external sound bar is connected to the TV via an audio cable from the audio out jacks on the set to the external sound bar. We have decreased the volume of the internal speaker so we only hear sound from the sound bar.

So the question is, does the configurable Auto Volume and Mode features on the set work on the sound from the Sound Bar ?

I was checking on the mode question, and I apologize for the delay. I've got an inquiry sitting on the desk of the TV expert for the mode. I'm not sure if the equalizer or sound options will transfer through the audio port.

I do know that the Auto Volume feature will not work, since the port is a fixed output - rather than a variable - so the volume will be soley dependent on the sound bar. I'll see if I can get an answer on the mode quickly.

Please note that we DO NOT have the internal speaker turned off or set to mute. Instead, the internal speeaker is still "on" but the Samsung remote was used to turn the volume all the way down. Even running with the internal speaker "on" and volume down (i.e. we have not selected "External Speaker"), we still get sound from the sound bar with volume control through the cable box remote.

So I would just like to clarify, you are saying that if we run with the internal speaker "on", we will not get "auto-volume" through the audio port-sound bar ?

Well, the audio output in the rear of the television is fixed (rather than variable), so the volume will remain constant through that port. The volume of the television set with the speakers will be affected by the "Auto Volume", rather than the audio output.

So when you turn the TV on, the Bose system will give sound to the volume where it was, or where it's set to be when it's turned on. The television, with "auto volume" should do the same, meaning if you have it set at 0, it should come on at 0.

Soundbar

Even Samsung staff get holidays (Friday&Monday?)

When you change the selection to "External speakers", all other options - including those - are greyed out. "Mute" gives "Not available". I guess the logic is that the external sound system will provide those features.
