HD/DVR Cable Box connectec via HDMI

Brand new HDMI cables, cable company sent signal to confirm HDMI port is active, cable company reset box just in case. Still no access to HDMI port 1 or 2. Any suggestions?
LN32A300J1D is the model. We got this TV as a Christmas present last year. Samsung tech support gave conflicting info on hook up capabilities. I was hoping to be able to put my XBOX 360 and Cable Box on the 2 available Component inputs and my Wii on the A/V...cannot do this because you folks made it so that the A/V inputs share one of the Component inputs....?????...so hence my attempt to use the 2 HDMI ports...what are the chances of both ports being faulty? After surfing the web seems like that this a problem with more than a few Samsung TV sad

It is true that one of the component inputs shares a composite input. Are you getting any kind of error message when attempting to hook up the cable box via HDMI?

It could be that the cable box is sending out too low of a resolution. So even though the cable box might reset, you want to make sure that it is outputting a 720p 1080i/p signal. By going into the menu of the cable box, you can set resolutions. Once you do that, you should be able to get a signal from the cable box to the TV.

It's pretty rare that HDMI ports stop working, but it's also entirely possible. But in most cases, it's because either the cable box is set to send via component (and the customer doesn't switch the output to HDMI), or because the resolution is 480i (which is often the default in the cable box).
