Sound cuts out randomly for about a second and then returns.
Occasionally it will go out and not return until we turn the TV off and back on. Or we go to the menu, sound, SRS TruSurround XT, then on or off to get the sound to come back. The TV is hooked up to a cable box with an HDMI cable. I read some other forums with similar problems. Is this an ongoing Samsung problem? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Rlivezey,

Usually, this is a cable box issue. If this happens again, turn off the cable/sat box rather than the television, and see if the sound comes back in. If it does, it's likely the HDCP (copy protection) chip in the cable box.

Many times, this can be resolved by calling the cable/sat company and having the box refreshed, reset or updated - and this can usually be initiated by them over the phone.

Sound cutting out

I have the same model, and my sound is cutting out. I have a motorola cable box. I'm using the hdmi output from the box and the hdmi 1 input on the samsung. It seems to cut out every hour or so when I am watching HD tv. What's the deal? Do I need to call this in as a warranty claim?

In many cases, calling the cable/sat company and asking them to reset or refresh the cable/sat box will often do the trick. And they can do it with you on the phone.

Firmware update neccesary

If you update the firmware for the TV (can be done using a thumb drive in the USB port on the TV) this problem will likely be resolved. I had to do the same thing. Google hpt4254x firmware update and contact samsung at the number that pops up. They'll email you the firmware (sorry, I don't know another way to find it) and this will fix the problem with all HDMI audio dropouts (cable box, DVR, PS3, etc)
