Samsung forum: Official HT-BD1250 Firmware 2.07 Thread

OK people, lots of people are worried, but updating to firmware 2.07 via USB can be done successfully. You need a USB thumbdrive though. And yes, this 2.07 firmware update is stable!

Here's how:

1. Go to

2. Click Firmware, then click 2.07 All OS - Upgrade File (USB type), then click the zip icon and save the file BEv2.07_090923_HTBD12XX_XAA.

3. Click the PDF icon next to the zip icon and read directions.

4. Extract folder from ZIP file BEv2.07_090923_HTBD12XX_XAA.

5. Go to extracted folder, right click and copy file BEv2.07_090923_HTBD12XX_XAA.RUF

6. Insert USB Thumbdrive into computer and paste file BEv2.07_090923_HTBD12XX_XAA.RUF to the root folder of the USB Thumbdrive.

7. Turn "On" Blu-Ray player and remove any disc that is inside it. Then "close" the Blu-ray Drive.

8. Insert USB Thumbdrive to front USB port of Blu-Ray Player. it will ask if you want to Update the firmware. Choose "yes".

9. Wait 3-6 minutes until Blu-ray turns off.

10. Remove the USB Thumbdrive and Power on the Blu-Ray player

11. A error might pop up, but just wait a few seconds. Congratulations you now have "Youtube" and "BLOCKBUSTER On Demand" as well as "Netflix" and "Pandora"

Follow these directions and you will be alright. This will not brick your system.

It has been noted here that the problem with v2.07 is no longer the upgrade from 1.x, which was the problem that started this discussion a few months ago. In my opinion, there still exists the possibility that the trouble will show up when upgrading FROM v2.07. Here is why: A few people upgraded their new player (v1.x) to the now infamous v2.12 successfully. Several people, including me, bricked their player when upgrading from v2.07 to v2.12. I have not seen anybody complaining that the upgrade from v1.x to v2.12 bricked their player. It is probably a small population of people who tried this exact upgrade, since v2.12 was not available long, but I have to believe that at least one such person would stumble upon this thread like the rest of us have after bricking their new player. This opens the possibility that v2.07 will still be problematic when upgrading to v2.13 or whatever is next. Furthermore, Samsung is apparently mute on the latest discussion, which makes me nervous.

Here is my best advice: If you have problems playing discs or find a bug in your player that drives you nuts, then consider upgrading to 2.07. If everything is good, then wait for the next firmware release. Then wait a couple of weeks and check back here to see if there are problems. An abundance of caution is warranted here, based on past history.

After returning the defected unit, due to the firmware upgrade, my new unit is coming in the mail within the next couple of days. I am really in doubt wether or not i should update the firmware. I am in Denmark so the firmware offered on the danish samsung site is 2.06...XEF version. Since this update already bricked one unit i am unsure whether or not to try again with the new unit.

I did exact as described by "juisyjuice", but i still ended up with a brick.

So what do you think, should i upgrade or not, when i get my new unit?

My month old HT-1200 unit was bricked with the 2.07 update. I ran the update from a USB drive and it went exactly as the instructions outlined. From what I am told by Samsung tech support person that when updating the firmware for the first time (regardless of what version) it needs to be done twice. Why? Not really sure, but seems dumb to me. What is happening with the 2.07 update is that it is getting hung up and not allowing you to install it again. Hence "bricking" because the install is technically only half way complete.

I am a firm believer that if your player is working fine don't update until Samsung has figured out a "real solution" to prevent this mass chaos. Try an internet and see. A LOT of pissed off customers. And at this moment the 2.07 update is still there with no words of caution or newer update.

I sent my unit in and should be arriving this week at the repair center, and am optimistic about getting in back within two weeks like I was advised when asked. Please note NO ONE at Samsung would guarantee any type of repair timeline so this is purely a guesstamation on their part.

The same thing happened to me. However, I only had my HT-BD1200 for two days! I wanted to upgrade the firmware so I could use Blockbuster and YouTube. I did see the early posts on this site, but just assumed that after two months the issue would be resolved by Samsung. Boy was I wrong! As soon as I saw the "LOAD" error displaying on my unit I knew I was in trouble. I have since gone online and entered a warranty repair order and sent the unit out to CVE in New Jersey. I hope I have it back within the next two weeks. I can't believe after three months, Samsung still hasn't been able to fix this issue.

Unit bricked and was returned and received by Samsung 11/20. Work order closed 12/1 because short part for repair. New work order issued to arrange shipment of new unit on 12/1. New Work order cancelled on 12/3 because part showed up for repair. New 14 day timetable to fix unit. I complain, Customer Service determines unit really cannot be fixed and will restart work order to ship new unit. Can't say when it will be shipped. Kicker, when new unit arrives I need to send back the speakers since they are sending a completly new full product. Seems it makes more sense to ship the speakers to me so I can send them back then just send me a new player. I had to give credit card # which will be charged if I do not return speakers. And I thought I've seen it all. Thank goodness for Samsung. This is a new low in customer service and brainpower on the part of a major corporation. Live and learn I guess.

In early October I had to send my unit for repair, following the failed update. This was before the current flood of repairs discussed here, so it took two weeks exactly. It came back with a two-point-something update installed.

The updated, factory-repaired system kept losing the wireless configuration and the audio sometimes wouldn't work until I turned the unit off and back on. I ended up returning the unit to Sam's club and getting a new one. I have not yet done the update...waiting for more positive posts here.

I think the only thing the upgrade does is add Blockbuster and Youtube to 1.0 systems, but you already have these on your 1.08 firmware. 2.07 may also solve some playback problem with specific discs. Until you run across one of those disks, I'd pass.

I just got off the phone with Samsung (for the 12th+ time). Apparently now these units are on back order and won't be available to ship until Dec. 13th. Another lovely topping to add to this ridiculous fiasco.

I bought my unit yesterday and set it up today. I immediately upgraded to the firmware version on the samsung website using the usb method. My system is now bricked. The thing I noticed is the directions say the unit will turn off after update, mine restarted. I dunno...

Anyone else going to start a campaign about this FRAUD!

You seem to be missing the point. A major corporation has released an update that corrupts the equipment to the point it does not work. Their response is for the customer to send the unit back and wait for them to either repair or replace the unit. This could be acceptable except for one thing, they knew what they were doing breaking these machines but continued to do it. Then, to add insult to injury they come up with this lame exchange policy where you first have to send back the unit and then the speakers. This rather than just sending you a new unit when they could not repair the original. I'm glad I'm not a stockholder in any company this stupid.

someone else in the thread mentioned a class action in New Jersey that's already been lost by Samsung.

They've basically sent a killbit out to a bunch of customers, and seem to be treating it as if it were an occasional bad electronic component instead of an online system. Cell phone companies couldn't get away with treating the product like it was a turntable with a bad plastic bit.

And the "ship your speakers to us" is pretty screwy, considering that they broke the product. ESPECIALLY the bit about "or we'll charge your credit card", that sounds like it could be easily abused by a fly-by-night operation. Product have a high failure rate? Set up a system where 'lazy' or busy people who have already purchased the product get billed. If they're 1st Quarter projections are weak, they can just send out another kill-bit to strengthen revenues.

And it is patronizing. They broke the product that you have already carefully installed, now you have to undo the wiring and send it back as if you were just doing this for free speakers. I dropped a sheet of plywood on my speaker wires, do I get dinged for returning damaged speakers to accompany the unit that they broke?

This does totally have class action all over it.
