Samsung forum: NEW Update File released for HT-BD1250

2.04 worked for me with the acception of mkv still not playing.

The download page on the Canadian Samsung website offers the following file:

BEv2.06_090914_HTBD12XX_XAC.zip

This looks like a V2.06 update, tagged with the date September 14, 2009.

The file inside the archive is:

BEv2.06_090914_HTBD12XX_XAC.RUF

According to WinZip, the .RUF file was modified on September 28, 2009.

Also available from the download site is a .PDF file that provides generic instructions on how to install the update.

Nowhere in the documentation, or on the website, is there any information on the reason(s) for the update.

What changes with this firmware release, so I can decide if its worth the risk to install it?

Why is the .RUF file modification date inconsistent with, and later than, the date tag in the filename?

I must have been one of those poor souls that got a "bricked" player ( very apt and clever description, btw... ) after updating the firmware late in the evening on Sept. 29 (PST).

My solution was to take it back to Best Buy and exchange it for a new unit. When I walked in carrying just the main unit, the employee at the door said, "What? Another one?" When I go to the Customer Care counter, I could see 2 open BD1250 boxes sitting on the back shelf. After they took a new box from the store shelf and opened it to exchange my main unit, there were 3 open boxes on the back shelf.

* Qudos to Best Buy for not making us bring in all the installed speakers and accessories to make the exchange.

So... I guess that sorta gives us an idea of how wide spread the issue must be.


I've been hunting on-line for the past 2 days for any official word as to what was the cause... and extent... of this issue. I'm also looking for an offical notice that its now safe to allow the firmware update. I've had to instruct everyone in the house to say NO!!! when the update message pops up.

So... is the new... new firmware update now safe to install?
