Not going well. They appear to not be going after the capacitor maker.

I would be careful with the replacement caps you use. The Samwha WB 10v 1000uF had a rated ripple of 1430, 105c temp and low impedance ( around .065 ). The RadioShack parts are most likely general purpose caps with a 85c rating, much lower ripple rating and a higher impedance that won't last very long. Check www.thecapking.com for quality replacements. They have free shipping and no minimum order so I use them over mouser or digikey.

was it black screen before, or slow cycling? and finally came on?

you replaced only the 1000uf caps, right? how did the 2000uf caps look?

I should correct my previous message:

I didn't see any 2000uf caps. There were five 100uf and one 220uf, all clustered together. I've now replaced them all, but nothing changed.

Those were 1000uf not 100uf.

I meant Samsung IS repairing certain out-of-warranty LCD tvs.

I have owened my LCD TV for about 2.5 years. I started experiencing the reported problems: when I turned it on I got sound and I saw picture for 1 second... then the lcd backlight would turn off but I could still hear the sound.

I called Samsung Canada and they said it could be a known capacitor issue, so they gave me a case number. Koambra Canada called me to setup a repair appointment at my house. They warned me that if it was NOT the capacitor problem I would be charged $80 for the call.

The repair guy came and we saw at least 3 blown/bulging capacitors. So he replaced the entire capacitor board (main power board) with a new one.

The TV worked fine for a few weeks.

Then it was randomly experiencing the same problem. If I turned it off and on again it would work OK (backlight stayed on). But eventually the off/on trick did not work anymore and I was right back at my original problem.

The same repair guy came back and we saw that the capacitors were not visibly blown this time. So he refused to do any work. I pleaded with him to try another power board, and so he did. It worked with another new power board!

So now I am concerned that there is another component on the TV which is maybe drawing too much power and causing another issue (possible?) I'm hoping it doesn't happen again in a few weeks because Koambra will not come back.

Has anyone exprienced this again after fixing the capacitors?

Is it possible that the capacitor problem ruined another component on a different board? If this is possible, then (in my opininon) Samsung should be repairing whatever the problem is since it's a consequence of the bad capacitors. However, the repair technician is telling me the capacitor problem can NOT effect anything else, and so if it dies again I'm out of luck for free repair.

Does anyone recommend anything I should test before it possibly happens again?

My screen actually went out again (but audio was still coming through). The second fix lasted about 2 weeks.

I left the TV unplugged for a couple days and now it works again! I've ween watching it for a few days without a problem. Very weird.

So perhaps my next investigation will be the inverter board. I'll try to listen for the buzzing that you suggested. I haven't tried Googling for a board yet. Any hints on where I might find a board?

Still leaves me wondering... if the bad capacitors could have caused the inverter board to possibly get damaged, then Samsung should be covering this repair for m,e or at least helping to get it fixed somehow!

The inverter board is model INV52B24A. Bought mine at "shopjimmy.com". You can see a photo on their site :

There are four inverters in the TV, each with a different two letter extensions to indicate the position; the link above is for the "RL" or the right-lower one, which is the one I replaced.

After reading your posts over the past several years I have become a fan, I to have been fooled by Samsung. I have replaced capacitors on two boards with good success, the original board and a back-up board. I also have the same buzzing noise from the left side of the LNT4665FX/XAA and sometimes the set will not have a picture, so it seems I have a inverter problem. I used the hair dryer technique last night and it worked, (hair dryer is now on standby next to the remote). I took the TV apart again today and was looking to replace the backlight inverter board on the left side, where the buzzing is coming from, but ran into a 2 problems, 1. Hard part to find part, number is different from yours, mine is (SSB460WA22-L Rev04). and 2. I took out all the screws and part will not come out. I really don't want to force it out, did you have the same problem? does that board clip into the black parts (caution high voltage) along the edge of board?

This thread has become very important on the issue of these old Samsung LCD's.
My set also fell victim and upon teardown the culprit was very visible.

I have placed an order for replacement parts.

My LN-52A550 was taking between 1-15 min to start and making the oft reported clicking noises with blinking front panel red LED while trying. Then it failed completely about a week ago. Samsung finally agreed to send a tech but will repair at their cost only if it's the capacitors. The tech is coming this Friday Dec 31.

I removed the back and did not see any bulging capacitors. All looked normal with flat tops. Now I'm worried that they will declare it not a capacitor problem, even though the symptoms are exactly like those described by so many with that problem.

Could it be something else? Any suggestions before the tech arrives?

If that happens, should I ignore the advise and try replacing the 5 capacitors anyway, or suck it up and get the repair they recommend? I guess if they say it's the main board, then it wouldn't help to replace the caps. But what if they say it's something else on the power supply and want to charge me, when it could still be the caps? What I'm asking is could this be the main board?
