Thanks for the scoop. I spoke to Samsung directly and they did not provide any answers. Hopefully we will see these new models soon. I am sure that I am not the only person out there waiting on them.

Heard this tv will be out late 2009. The 8500 series will be out first. I am thinking they will release for the christmas rush. The 8500 series will be in the 3599 range. The 9000 series will come in 2 sizes 46 and 55 inch.

The Samsung 9000 series is made up of two models so far, the 46-inch UN46B9000 and the 55-inch UN55B9000. Prices are currently unavailable but think the 46 inch will be around 4000 and 4900 for the 55 inch. just a guess since the 8500 starts out at 3599.00.. The 9000 series improves upon the 8500 series. The 8500 series, which as an edge-lite LED backlight, will be available in the US in September and come in two sizes: 46-inch and 55-inch sporting 240Hz frequencies, a dynamic contrast ratio of 7,000,000:1 that means absolutely nothing and a very fast 2ms response time. The 8500 series will have a big matching price too: US$3599.99 for the 46-inch and $4499.99 for the 55-inch. Im guessing the 9000 series will be even more expensive. it is to be out late 2009 just in time for the christmas or thanksgiving rush..I am thinking black friday...day after thanksgiving.

Unfortunately, some media outlets have mis-reported this.

The 8500 Series will have a Backlit LED (not Edge), which will allow for local dimming, much like the LNxxA950 series from last year. The 9000 has been in concept, but not officially finalized.

There is no plan for Black Friday, from anything *I* know anyway, of this being a BF release. It's not an impulse purchase. I've been wrong before, but I don't believe we're holding off on its release based on that sale day. I believe it should be available for purchase before then without the ability to promise that.

8500 vs 9000

I also just heard from my distributor that the 8500 is backlit and should be a vast improvement over the 8000's edge lit LED. But what will the difference be between the 8500 and the 9000 series?

the added thickness isn't an issue for the full backlit LED btw.

I don't have any distribution information for any market except the U.S. However, many of the local electronics stores would probably know if it's something they're planning on receiving.

I wish I had an answer, but I just don't know.

My understanding from my readings is that the 8500 series is the first of the "fully back-lit" (adjustable) RGB LEDs from Samsung and NOT the Edge-lit white border LED garbage. The 8000 is the last Edge-lit. But you say this is not true?
WHO IS RIGHT ????????????

I'm not sure where you read any of that.

There is no UNxxB9000 series - current or planned.

The UNxxB8500 is a fully back-lit LED television, but it doesn't use RGB - they're white LEDs.

The UNxxB8000 Series is the top of the line Edge-Lit LED LCD TV.

just wondering about screen burn-ins and the new tv's, i am a gamer and just wanted to know if this problem has been rectified or still plagues the plasmas, also, does this affect the new b8500 led range? another question about the b8500, does the US released model support pal as well as ntsc?

8500 has been released in USA already,

Plasma remains unrecommended for long-term game playing.

Not so much with LCDs.

I don't believe the U.S. models support PAL. If it released in other regions, it will likely support PAL however, so stay tuned.

The manual quotes 5% of the time for anything with static images, per week. While you could probably increase that by taking careful measures (lowering brightness and contrast, etc), leaving static images on a plasma is not covered under warranty.
