LN52A860 sound sync problems

by ActionAmerica.org - 5/17/09 7:57 PM

I am having problems with getting my sound to sync with my video on my 860.

My TV Video Inputs are: HD Cable box (HDMI1), DVD (Component 2), AppleTV (HDMI2). In the past, I used a TV with multiple Component inputs and so, fed my video from each device to the TV via Component Cables. The only difference is that now, I use HDMI (10.2Gbps) for two of those devices.

My audio connection of choice (and what I have used successfully with other TVs in the past) is to use optical cables from the Cable Box and AppleTV and a coaxial RF cable from the DVD player, to my Denon AC3/DTS Receiver.

With that setup, I get noticeable delays in the video (i.e. the image lags the sound). I also checked the Samsung site for software updates for the TV. Calling their tech support was less than useless. The girl just read from a manual. I can do that.

Anyway, on a recommendation from a friend, who has a different brand of TV, I tried connecting an optical cable from the TV to the Receiver, hoping that would resolve the sound sync issue. However, that optical output only appears to output stereo to the receiver. I bought the Samsung 860, because it was supposed to be "state-of-the-art". Looks like I was wrong, because optical ports that only output stereo went out years ago? What's wrong with this picture?

I'm thinking that there has to be a fix. I just can't believe that Samsung would sell a product with such a major flaw. On the other hand, if this can't be fixed, then I am just hoping that it's not too late to get my money back. Otherwise, I'll be forced to sell the Samsung on eBay, because I can't live with these out-of-sync images.
