It is not the phosfor that is buzzing from these units. It is the power suply, and it is the power suply that is buzzing from most of them I have talked with that own a B serie plasma from samsung.. To me, this show that you have some very bad quality controll issues at your company that you need fix.. Here in Norway, samsung has acnowlegged that this is an issue (with the power suply) and all that have got this issue get their money refunded... To me this is not good, I want this tv set and I want it without problems..!!!

jenseike,
My point was that any phosphor-based unit can cause what many people would describe as a buzzing sound. If someone who didn't hear it went to their television to listen for it and then heard it, it doesn't necessarily mean that something is out of the ordinary.
I can't speak for Norway's service center, but I am not aware of such a "known issue", and any affected users will have a remedy on a case by case basis.

Once again SamsungTech says he is unaware of a known issue with the buzzing.
Seriously after all the forum posts and all the links to the buzzing threads and all the complaints on this forum and the internet.
Seriously SamsungTech?

I've have had my PN58B860 since June 9th and I'm extremely pleased with the picture quality of the unit. But since the day one the plasma has displaying similar buzzing issues that many other owners are reporting. I was hoping that over time the buzzing noise would be less noticeable. Instead, I am having to turn up the volume to at least 30 to mask the buzzing noise. This problem is becoming a serious annoyance and is significantly ruining my viewing experience. In fact, there has been a couple of times when I have had a ringing in my ear after a couple hours of tv watching.
Now I see that Samsung's official response the buzzing issue is to test the severity of the issue by standing 15 feet away from the unit. Well I don't have that luxury because of the size of my place. My couch is roughly 10 feet from the tv, which is supposedly the optimal distance for that screen size. And I can't image that everyone else is watching their tv at this distance.
I can understand that tv's can emanate some kind of noise. But it should not be noticeable to anymore at more than 5 feet in my opinion. This is my first tv from Samsung and I would love to sing its praises to everyone I know. But this nagging issue is preventing me from doing so at the moment. I hope Samsung will display the necessary goodwill to its customers who have reported this kind of problem and help them come to an acceptable resolution.
Thanks,
Adrian

I received the PN50b860 as a replacement for the FPT5084 last week. My 5084 had multiple issues including buzzing which had to be serviced and fixed by having felt tape installed between copper strips and the back panel. The b860 has loud buzzing also that can be heard from 10-15 feet away with the volume on the television set to 25. Now, keep in mind that I have my settings set to very low levels- Contrast 45, brightness 30, cell light 4...and it still buzzes loudly. The buzzing is variable due to the content on the screen. Bright scenes buzz much louder than dark scenes. I've already called Samsung to repair the set. Best part is that I had 1 year of warranty left on my 5084 but since it was exchanged by Samsung, I now have only a 30 day warranty on the 860 so I have to pay an additional $200-$300 on an extended warranty on this POS b860 to cover it after 30 days. Thanks Samsung. I pay $2200 for a lemon 5084 that was repaired 5 times including a panel replacement in a year and now have to pay another fee on top of that to cover another faulty set.

adriangillette,
If the buzzing is that loud, I'd recommend having the unit serviced. Service issues are never fun, but if it's bothersome and under warranty, then the best thing to do is to get it fixed. If you call 800-SAMSUNG, you can have a repair technician come out and inspect your unit and hopefully a resolution.
Keep me posted.

I have the pn58b860 mounted on the wall with the sanus low profile wall mount. Behind the tv is a panamax MIW-POWER-PRO-PFP, the plug is recesed but the plug still gets bent from the tv, there is no way that I can put a ferit core on it. Are the ferit cores necessary?
Do they make that much of a difference, even on the HDMI cables?
thanks
Loved the thinness, loved the design, loved the picture.
Hated the buzzing.
TV went back. I hear Panasonics do not buzz and have good picture as well.
That buzzing problem is not normal plasma buzz.

i can hear it in the next room.
Don't give me the line that it is normal and to get it serviced if it is that loud.
I did get it serviced 3 times! First power supply then main logic board then y-board.
None of these items fixed the buzzing. If anything it is now louder than before.
Now what? I am already outside my return window. Samsung will only offer a refund?
What about actually fixing a design defect in all these models. I have had 2 of these and they both buzzed.

Deny problem exits, get it repaired, it is not a known problem, etc.
It is all about Deniability.
If you are really here to help, let's be honest:
1) Acknowledge problem exists.
2) Spend some engineering resources to fix the issue.
Case by case they are refunding peoples money and not fixing the problem.
I believe that this will never get fixed because they do not want a class action suite.

I am fed up with this TV, and I am fed up with Samsung.
Not only can I hear the buzzing from 15ft away. I now have a washing machine, my movie playing and a dishwasher running and can still hear the buzzing.
I have made a formal complaint to Samsung Australia about my 2 faulty series 6 plasma which I had from Januaray 2009 to July 2009.
They were subsequently replaced with this Series 8 from the supplier, which has made my experience WORSE, not better.
Samsung did not return my calls or respond to my formal complaint.

I got the PN58B860 (Batch BU03, December 2009, Product of Mexico) this past April. I started hearing the buzz in a couple of weeks. It was not a constant buzz, it would come on about 30 minutes after the TV was powered on. Also, the buzz would get louder sometimes, and then diminish or go away. This seemed to happen based on what scene was on the screen. This buzz was happening with the volume turned up, meaning I could hear the buzz over the normal sound from the TV broadcast.
So I called the store where I bought the TV from and they shipped me another one, same model PN58B860. This one does not have the buzz. Now there is a very slight buzz, but I only can hear it when the TV is on mute and that also only if I trying to listen for it. The batch number, month/year and location of manufacture were the same as the one with the buzz.
My conclusion is that some of the TV's have this defect. Another note, my parents have the same exact TV model, and they don't have a buzz on thiers.
Don't buy these - They buzz loudly

got my Samsung PN50B860 last week and mounted it on the wall.... the picture is amazing!!! BUT I want to shoot myself after 10 minutes of watching TV secondary to the buzzing, and blasting the volume to try to drown the buzz is making me deaf. I am sitting at 12 feet from the TV. So I called Samsung, repairman came out and said this was normal buzzing!!! WHAT?!?!?!? after i made him sit down in front of it for about 10 minutes (with the volume on low) he agreed that it was louder than normal and that he will order parts for it.... however, based on reading peoples responses on the forum, sounds like the "fix" wont work i am so disappointed in this TV and will try to have Samsung eventually get me a replacement LED LCD or $ back....

When you read the response from the Samsung fellow on this forum you would think that this is just a minor fix or an unusual problem effecting just a few sets when in fact it is a major problem that they have not been able to correct.
This fellow acts as if its some surprize and no one at Samsung knew about it until recently. There are 1000's of posts on many different forums going back to January of this year on this buzzing issue which is much louder than on any other plasma set.
Buyer beware and make sure your eyes are open.
Extremely Disappointed with Samsung!!!

I bought a 63" Samsung Plasma last week. The 550 model. Turned it on, BIG blueish-Green Striped going down the center of the TV.
I sent it back to Best Buy, and upgraded in quality, but had to downgrade in size (Samsung doesn't make anything decent above 58" that I could find anywhere...)
I read rave reviews about the PN58B860 - I crossed my fingers and prayed that when I plugged it in, I wouldn't be one of the 50% that heard this loud buzzing.
Not only did it (literally) give me a headache, but it makes my dog run out of the room.
It is appalling to me that Samsung would leave this defect on the market. No recall? What a waste of time and money.
This one will be going back to Best Buy first thing in the morning, and I will be going back to a brand that I never have had any issues with in 5 years. I don't know if I'm allowed to mention the name, but it's the only one that is always in the running with Samsung, and usually wins the editors reviews. Also just won best pic for 2010 CES.
Thanks for wasting my time with a piece of garbage Samsung.
