Deadline to purchase Samsung extended warranty for LCD TV?

My father-in-law bought a Samsung LCD TV on 11/17/07 and registered it for the additional 90 day warranty. The TV needed service on 1/29/09, so Samsung covered the repair. The Samsung repair guy that came to the house said our warranty expires on 2/18/09 and that we need to call if we wanted to purchase an extended warranty.

I called Samsung on 2/13/09 and asked if my father-in-law could purchase the extended warranty, but I was told the extended warranty must be purchased within the first year from the date of purchase. So even though the TV is still under warranty (thanks to the 90 day warranty extension for registering), we can't buy an extended warranty?

Can anyone confirm this?

If Samsung persists in not allowing the purchase of the extended warranty at this point you may find relief with your credit card company. Most will double the original warranty up to one additional year if the item was purchased with their card. If the TV was bought with a credit card contact the card company and inquire about this. Some require "registering" the bought product with a certain time period. Others, like American Express, do not. American Express requires only that you retain and be able to provide copies of the original warranty and the sales invoice...at the time service is required.

dahvoo,

I would suggest calling 1-866-309-9907, which is our extended warranty line. I don't work in that department, and they can better answer that question.
