HDMI ISSUE WITH LN40A550 - HELP

I just picked up an LN40A550 and I'm experiencing an issue with the HDMI input when connected to my XBOX 360. I'm currently using all 3 HDMI ports (1 for DVR, 1 for PS3, and 1 for XBOX 360). When changing the "source" the DVR and PS3 work fine but not the XBOX. I know its not an HDMI cable issue because I've swapped the cables around and used different HDMI ports for each device and the DVR and PS3 work fine.

What is interesting about this is that my XBOX 360 and HDMI worked fine yesterday but as of today, my TV doesn't recognize a source when the XBOX is powered up. My XBOX 360 isn't defective because when I connect using component cables, it works fine on the TV.

I read how this TV has a known issue with certain blu-ray players and HDMI and wonder if this is somewhat related...

What should I do about this? Return my TV for another? Is there a firmware update that can remedy this? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Current Firmware Module is: T-PRL3AUSC-1007.0, DATE 2008-10-09

I went to the samsung website and saw how the latest downloadable firmware there is 1006.1, so if I'm understanding everything correctly, I'm on the latest firmware right?

HDMI

David,

Did you switch the XBOX's output back to HDMI after you tested it with the component cables?

When the XBOX is powered up, it still may be sending the signal via component.

Yes, I tried connecting via HDMI, but the TV doesn't recognize a connection. As for the display settings in XBOX, there is no specific option to change the output to HDMI or Component, you can only change the display resolution (480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p).

Any ideas?

I remember last night when I first connected my xbox 360 to the tv, it didn't recognize a connection, then I turned off the xbox and tv and retried it and it recognized the source.

Never frustrating...

I might suggest putting the settings on 720 or 1080.

The television will do a test when it starts up, which is probably why it didn't recognize the cable swap until after it was turned off and back on again.

I ended up unplugging the tv and xbox because I had to do some shuffling with the power cords and the tv and xbox work fine (so far...).

I really think there is some type of incompatibility issue with the hdmi and xbox because like what I was saying earlier in my original post, this was a problem when i first connected the tv and xbox.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed...

Also, the suggestion of renaming the source to xbox - not sure how you do that? I can change it to "game" but I don't see how I can customize the source... then again, I haven't looked at the manual yet...

Game...

There is a game mode, and that is the feature that cuts down on a lot of the processing.

If the problem doesn't persist, perhaps it was a bad connection. I'm not sure how to explain that, but at least it's working again.

a bit OT, but related "?" to HD_tech.

rather than opening a new thread, let me ask the HD_tech here:

I have a LN40A550 and it came with FW 1005.1 (no need to go to 1006 as I don't have any "red blur").

But I am curious to know what FW versions 1007 and 1008 are supposed to fix, and why these 2 FWs are not yet on the samsung support/download page for this model...
(there have been many reports from people who bought the 550 series lately and they had those 2 FWs; that's why I am asking)

any info would be appreciated.

XBox HDMI

Which HDMI are you connected to? Some people have had problems w/ HDMI 1, possibly because of the DVI capability.
One thing you may want to try is to rename the input to XBOX. This worked for some people when using HDMI for PC. I don't know why though. Wouldn't hurt to try.

Firmware

Very briefly, firmwares are model specific, and the numbers for specific models address different issues in those models. While an improvement may be necessary for one series, the other series may remain wholly unaffected.

Did your "replacement" Xbox 360 come with the new NXE dashboard? Have you download it ? (you would know, since you cant miss the cute avatars apparently no one likes). Did the problem start only after the NXE download like so many Microsoft Xbox 360 owners claim? I said replacement because It's no news Retailers estimate that one in every three Microsoft Xbox 360's sold have failed right out the box or shortly thereafter. Sample hardware assessment also confirmed the reliability woes plaguing Microsofts Xbox 360 console remain severe when compared to failure rates connected to market rivals. And the NXE fiasco isn't helping.

Adding another egg on Microsoft's face is their New NXE Dashboard. Microsoft has now confirmed that a number of Xbox 360s are suffering from audio output problems, video (device not supported) problems and worst (if there could be such a thing) Bricking of the 360 due to the NXE Update. Customers claim they experienced problems as soon as NXE installed.

Apparently if you downloaded the update and your system is connected to your "Brand New Large Screen Tv" via HDMI and you didn't experience a problem with the HDMI then consider yourself lucky and in the minority. Although not pleasing at all a work around if you can call it that at the moment is to use component. BUT Component can also be iffy since people have been known to also suffer the same problems with component that they suffered with using HDMI after the NXE update.

Ha... that's funny that you say "replacement" because that is exactly what it is... I had the red ring problem a few months back and had to send off the system to Microsoft to fix. Anyhow, the xbox is running the new NXE dashboard as well.

I NXE update was done when it was connected via HDMI on my Samsung Plasma and I experience no output issues with this TV.

My new Samsung LCD is a different story... like i was saying, I haven't had any issues yet (about 4 days now) but I'm just waiting for that day to come when I fire up my xbox and drive myself crazy come to find that there is no video output to the TV.

I thought about exchanging the TV for another one at the local retailer that I bought it from but it kind of a hassle because my tv is mounted...

thanks for the insight, I haven't heard of the reported issues with the NXE dashboard... good to know..
