double click folders some open some try to compress?/

When I double click on some folders they open a save as box , if I right click the option at the top of the diologue box is OPEN and a double click will open it, on some the top option is to COMPRESS FILE and a double click tries to "save as (whatever ) .zip " have I done something wrong how can I get al folders to open with a double click,, anyone know why?? thanks in advance
