I am trying to recover my Gateway M-6307 from a vista boot disk and as soon as I put in the product key to allow Vista to install a cancellation notice comes up saying "Windows can not open the required file E:\Sources\install.wim. The file does not exist. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code 0x80070002" Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

If so, and even if not, try a duplicate of that DVD but record it at a lower speed and clean the CD/DVD lens.
The story you present is too light on detail. If it's not the Gateway recovery media, you may encounter too many errors.

It is not from Gateway, I downloaded a Vista home CD as a torrent and then put it on a CD using "power2go" on my desktop which is in perfect running condition. I have already tried making another copy at a slower speed. The boot disk works perfectly up until the point of install.
When I look up the error code it says it most likely has to do with a backup issue. My backup on the laptop is COMPLETELY full though, and I would clear it, although the "UI for admin confirmation" stops working with EVERYTHING that requires admin access.
Also, I have tried to run internal recovery program Gateway supplies but it wont open. I do not need any of the information on this laptop i just want it back to factory settings for my wife to use for school.

That was the very first thing I tried although once I try to access "gateway system recovery" it says " C:\\Windows\SMINST\Grc_Vista.axe File system error (-1073741521)
That line has many errors.

Sorry but now we need the recovery DVDs from Gateway.
That error you posted should have had single backslashes and the .axe from what I can find should have been .exe.
Unless you cloned the drive and kept a copy, I know of no fix except to use restore media. Order them soon from Gateway. Cheaper than a new os.
