how to get my windows vista home premium key back.

Windows vista home prem. came pre installed on my laptop and the back sticker is unreadable now, where key is written, though HP has well laminated their sticker showing serial no. and product no. lol.

Anyways i m currently using windows 7 in trial mode and have lost backup dvds of vista also. So no disk no windows no sticker, but still needs to install vista so that i can upgrade it to windows 8. ms cc told me i have to have activated windows
to buy windows 8 online for $39

And it never asked for that key. What you want is the recovery media as it installs without asking for the key. HP, last time charged 35 bucks for the media.

Tip: The media is not copy protected so you are free to make a backup copy.

i have mentioned there that I don't have recovery dvds ..... so the solution I was thinking is download vista from net and apply the key provided by HP/Microsoft to me for this specific product.

I think since there is special serial no. to identify this product there must be some way to get key of the os that came with it may be from Hp/micro .. I don't that's why seeking help

So let's also state the key on the laptop is one of those OEM keys that don't work on downloaded versions. There are plenty of discussions about that so my thought is more along the lines of the cheapest way to solve this.

But to cover off the question you didn't ask. Install Vista from the HP recovery media (about 35 bucks) then go get http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ to find the key.

Once in awhile you find folk that won't believe you about the OEM key not being of much use. You know to let them try.
