Windows Vista forum: USB Device not recognized

USB Device not recognized

For the last couple of days, I have been getting the message: "USB Device not recognized" There is nothing wrong with my USB ports. One forum suggested that the PC be shut down and the power be unplugged from the outlet for at least one minute. I did that, but still have the same error message. I have an HP laptop with Vista Home Premium SP1 running. At the same time this error occurred, I updated Windows with the latest updates. Has anyone seen this error message? Thanks.

But given the story I can't offer much except to try system restore to when it worked.

And NEVER EVER use drivers from Microsoft if you have a working system. I am guessing you know why.
