vista keeps freezing and need to refresh what's up?

My computer will freeze and can't move forward unless I refresh, am constantly needing to do this and it's frustrating. I also keep getting messages at the bottom that say script running is too long or web page not responding. I hate all these messages all the time and the need to refresh constantly, can anyone help or have suggestions?

I use internet explorer but tried chrome and still had the same problems. Ran a scan and defrag but nothing seems to help.
