Icons change size & location

Every time my wife closes her laptop,the icons change size & move.
I've tried everything I can think of & nothing seems to work.I even formatted & reinstalled the os.
Does anyone have any idea's?
It is a compaq presario with vista sp2,4G ram.

Note that just which version you use depends on whether you have 32 bit or 64 bit Vista installed:
