why do I have no sound?

I cannot get any sounds on my computer. The speaker icon is still shown in the right hand bottom of the screen. This happened suddenly and I have no clue as to why. Thanks for any help.

all we can suggest are generic tests.

Are the speakers themselves turned on? Some speaker systems have their own on/off/volume switch.

Are the speaker leads connected firmly to the computer?

Is the volume muted?

When did it work and what has changed in the meantime?

Hello sir, about your sound problem I think that the sound driver has been deleted, so you have to reinstall it and try search on Internet tape (download sound driver for XXXXXXXXX) replace XXXXXXXX by the name of your computer,
if this didn't work press keywind+R write dxdiag choose sound and check if there are errors.

Running dxdiag is a good idea.

But what's an "internet tape"?
Computer 'name' (assuming you mean 'manufacturer and model' ) might not be enough to determine which sound card it contains and what driver it needs. And most likely such a search directs you to all kind of shady driver sites in stead of the only reliable one, that of the maker. The driver disk that came with the PC is the best first step in such cases.
