i have a vista home premium and am encountering windows could not connect to the systems event notification service upon boot up. Subsequently could not connect to the internet. could anyone help please?

There are far too many causes for this one.

From malware, the clock/date is wrong to an expired Norton (or other AV).

Tell more and do try System Restore to when it worked.

It appears that some outdated AV was noted on the first hit as well as diving into Windows Services to start it.

Thanks for the reply. I was able to renew my norton internet security just before it expired. Another I could add is that it takes a long time to boot up after logging in then the screen goes blank thereafter my desktop would appear then the windows could not connect to the system event notification service. Where could I locate the system restore?

I usually click on the Windows "Orb"

Some call it the Start button and type in system restore.
