Windows Vista forum: Kodak Easyshare 5210 Printer

Thanks. The first option wont work as it isn't a printer fault. How do I go about reinstalling OS? I don't have disks as vista was already on the laptop when I brought it. Will I loose any files or programmes by reinstalling vista?

1. I didn't mean another printer of the same type. It's likely the
drivers for an HP or Canon or Epson will install. Maybe even for another
Kodak. You'll only know once you tried. However you can install the
drivers without having the printer, because Windows comes with a long
list of supported printers.

2. If there are no disk then (depending on make and model) there's a recovery partition to boot from or a program to make the disk yourself. That should be in the user manual. Or the makers customer service or website knows. Or somebody here knows once you told the details of your laptop.
Most often, such a recovery makes the laptop as it was when you bought it. So you'll lose anything you put on it yourself and didn't backup. You'll have to reinstall all your programs, redo all your settings and restore all your data from your backup.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried installing another printer (HP) and the same happens. If there a programme I can run to see if there is something on my laptop that is preventing the drivers from installing? I do back-up onto an external hard drive each month so if I need to re-install vista then that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

If there's no error number in the message, and Event Log doesn't show useful information either, it seems impossible to find out the reason.

I get the above error message when attempting to install printer.

If the description is "can't connect" that might mean that you install to the parallel port LPT1: not to a USB port. Even in Windows 7 the LPT1: still is the default, that you have to change yourself. A USB printer can be installed (must be installed, according to some sources) WITHOUT being connected. A good old parallel printer must be installed WHILE being connected. So such an error message makes sense if you do it wrong.
But I must admit I didn't check all those hits. In fact, I didn't check any..
