I read through an old thread of the same issue & tried everything that was suggested there but I still have no luck in getting audio back on my Inspiron 1525.
This problem happened when I decided to re-install my sound drivers because my built-in microphone wasn't working. When I re-installed them, the microphone still wasn't working & I even lost audio - no sound using the internal speakers, headphones or external plug-in speakers.
When I checked for an update it said my drivers are up to date - uninstalled & re-installed at least a dozen times in hopes it would finally kick in but no luck. Tried uninstalling the modem driver too but that didn't do anything.
Under Playback & Recording Devices it shows that everything is working, yet at the same time the computer is telling me "no audio device is installed".
My laptop is no longer under warranty since I've already had it for 3 years but aside from this audio problem it's still working great... would really appreciate any additional advice anyone may have to get my audio back up & running. Thanks!!
