Jumping cursor

I have Vista operating system on my lap top. Has anyone experineced a problem with the cursor jumping about, for example, as you are typing, the cursor jumps and what you are typing appears somewhere else?

Trackpad?

Does this laptop have a trackpad?

If so, try disabling that before you begin typing. As you type and brush against the pad this can cause the cursor to jump, or other strange actions, especially if it accepts 'gestures', eg a certain gesture might emulate the Home or Page Down button, or similar.

My laptop has a button next to the trackpad which when pushed disables it whilst I type, but in any case I have disabled it permanently and now use a USB mouse. I was forever brushing the pad with my wrist or other parts of my hand and losing work.

Thanks for your reply. How do you disable it? I haven't got a button next to the touch pad. I went to help and typed in "Disable Touch pad." I got "To turn the touch pointer on and off" and asked me to go to "Turn the touch pointer on or off". After this I do not get Touch Pad option on the screen

Open the Control Panel, then the "Mouse" icon, then the "Pointer Options" tab, then UNCHECK the box next to "Enhance Pointer Precision". Click on Apply, then OK.

This is a problem with the synaptic pointer. The drivers need to be updated and installed. Go to this site and choose which OS system. You will not have that problem again. After you install it restart your computer. It is free. http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers

Jumping cursor solution.

After a year of frustration I have just been told that my thumbs are occasionally touching the touchpad and causing the cursor to jump. I covered the pad with a piece of paper and the jumping stopped.
