application transfers Vista to W-7

OK I have both OS installed in one Seagate hard drive. is there a way to transfer all my apps and settings from the Vista OS to the W-7 OS?

I tried using the Seagate tools disk but did not have the comfort factor that it was doable. To me it read like it was only from one hard drive to another.

No, the only way to do this would be to upgrade Vista to 7.

Programs do not transfer well in Windows, if at all. The problem is that any software installation procedure often installs files and settings all over the Operating System's hard disk, eg in Windows\System, and/or in User folders, so simply transferring the main "Program files" folder over to another OS hard drive doesn't get everything. In addition, the Windows registry is not transferable from one system to another.

All you can do is to re-install software onto the Windows 7 partition as if you were starting from fresh, or upgrade this Vista install to Windows 7.

The answer has been no since 1995.

But SETTINGS and files often transfer fine. Try Microsoft's Transfer Wizard.
