Vista will not load completely

I was trying to access a web site, when a message suddenly appeared that a file had stopped working. It was res...something and then a blue screen appeared and then the computer shut itself off. Okay, so I restart, choose start windows normally and I get the green bar with the microsoft corporation writing there, then a cursor(that I can move) but no screen. It's like the screen is there but it's not there. This same thing happened on my windows xp laptop and it had something to do with the wireless mouse I use.(I had taken the wireless usb thing out and restarted the computer and once I replaced it and started the computer again, it worked) in any event, I have a KVM switch and a 1TB External drive attached to this computer. Also, my CT810 LG Phone was plugged into one of the front USB ports since I was syncing my phone too, so I don't know what to do at this point. I tried plugging the phone back in to see if that would get it, but no dice. I checked the BIOS to see what the booting sequence is(removable drive first, hard disk second, cdrom third) I tried changing the sequence to force it to look at the hard disk first, and no luck there so I changed it back. This is a royal pain because I have to be able to use this computer(for business purposes) at least I still have my laptop and the one time I was able to get into safe mode, I backed up my .pst folder in outlook, so at least I can install that here to deal with email until I fix the problem. Any suggestions? I even tried system restore and that failed too. I am in the process of looking for the disk that came with the computer and trying that(already ran a chkdsk and that didn't turn up any errors) thanks for any help you can give me!
