Windows Vista forum: Why can't I uninstall any program?

I'm also running Windows Vista, 64-bit on a Gateway DX4800-05e. Initially the problem is that I can't connect to the internet. I installed a PCI card but my computer won't recognize any disc in the cd-drive as anything but "blank" so I can't install the drivers.

I've traced this problem back (I think) to the Norton 360 that came on the computer when I purchased it not 6 months ago. It ran out and I only had problems AFTER I bought the 2 year upgrade, maybe 2 weeks ago. I tried to uninstall Norton but "The system cannot find the path specified". Can I just delete the Norton files and call it a day or would that only complicate my problem?

I recently uninstalled Trend Micro Internet Security, and it was quite a process. I went to the Trend Micro site (you should go to the Symantec site) and looked up how to uninstall it. None of the methods given there worked, so I ended up calling them up for support and they talked me through removing all the files and registry information manually, ick. I'd suggest that you follow a similar plan, look on the internet for how to remove the specific product and version that you have. Norton has some special removal tools due to the pervasiveness of their software, but there's lots of information out there about how to do this.
