Yes, I've tried copying it to Me Administrator/Pictures and then trying to open it in Photo Gallery and get error message "You can't add this location to the Gallery. This folder or one of its parent folders is considered a system folder or marked as hidden. It's recommended that you move your pictures to the pictures folder or to another folder."
But they still don't appear, even though Photo gallery tells me they are there.
And did you remove the Read Only flags?

When we copy from CD we get one more thing to take care of.

Yes - but when I re-open the folder, it hasn't taken efect. I also took ownership of the folder but that didn't make a change either.
Now you have a warranty issue.

It doesn't work. Call them up as they may have tweaked Vista in some odd way.

I bet some other company made the machine. I re-read this thread and see a lot of missing details that the words in red ask for. It may have mattered but something basic looks broken.

Click the vista orb (start button) type Windows Photo Gallery and press enter.
Now on the file menu, click 'Add Folder to Gallery'
Browse to that folder and click OK.
Works fine here but I didn't try to add a CD folder as that didn't make sense since the CD may vanish.

2. Delete 'empty directories'?
3. Remove any malware recently?
4. Install a newer antivirus suite?

Thanks for admitting that OS has been beat up. It's well knows that those registry cleaners and deleting empty directories that the Gallery uses will break it.
There is NO ASSURANCE this can be fixed. But at least we know possible reasons for it to be busted which was a mystery to me until now.
This link contained a few clues on possible re-creation of those directories and more. However with the use of a registry cleaner you can only hope that some service pack in the future rewrites the needed entries or someone issues a way to re-create those.
Sorry but that's all I know. If I was unclear, this is what I know. Registry cleaners and owners that go around cleaning up "unused" directories tend to have to reload the OS.
Good luck and stop with the registry cleaners please.
