Windows Vista forum: Font problem

I've seen that CCLeaner font issue for over 10 years. Are you telling me it's about time Microsoft and software authors fix such things?

Microsoft has been almost silent about changing core fonts under our feet and fallout like what you see results. That's just aesthetics (according to Microsoft) and they seem to not take the issue seriously.

You also see these change when someone installed Office 2007.

Sorry to see so many vexed by this. I've only watched this issue since Windows 1.0 and it never was "right."

Simple Approach:
1.) Go Control Panel->Appearance and Personalization->Personalization->Theme.
2.) Select any other theme from the drop-down menu and click Apply.
3.) Click your theme again (Windows Aero is the default) and click OK.


Complex Approach:
1.) Go Control Panel->Appearance and Personalization->Personalization->Window Color and Appearance->Open classic appearance properties for more color options.
2.) Click Advanced.
3.) Select each item, one at a time, from the drop-down menu and change the font, font size, and font emphasis one at a time.
-> I believe 9pt Segoe UI (not bolded or italicized) is the default for Message Box, Selected Items, etc. under the default Windows Aero theme.

You can install/remove fonts on an individual basis but there is no restoration procedure aside from performing a System Restore to a time before the issue arrived or reinstalling Vista. However, you can rollback your display drivers through the Device Manager, a component of Computer Management as an administrative option in the Control Panel, which Bob alluded to.

First time I saw your question, I was seeking solution for the same problem. After some time searching on the net, I found couple of potential solutions.

1 Registry problem: Fonts, MuiCache, FamilyDefaults, and FontSubstitutes were wrong. So I used my friends computer (same windows type and version) and extracted his registry values, and applyed them on my computer. That fixed most fonts. But big font remained on some apps (flashget, windows installer...)

2 Font files were damaged. I read somewhere on internet that damaged font files causes windows to use substitute font, a that substitute can make letters small or big... So, went to my friend, again, and copied his "C:\windows\fonts" folder. Then, I used booted Knoppix from DVD, and overwritten all matching fonts. Rebooted system to Windows Vista, and checked flashgot... Problem was gone!
