HP Recovery Manager issues

by Tankhammers - 4/30/08 8:54 AM

I know this thread is better suited in another forum but I've always had a lot of good luck dealing with OS guru's. I've started one in the laptop thread as well.

For the past 48 hours, I have been trying to restore the media files I have backed up using HP's back up software. I run a HP Pavilion dv6409us with Vista Home Basic. I have two files, an (exe) file and a (fbw) file. I can get the (exe) file to start but when the program gets to the (fbw) file, I get a Visual Basic C++ Runtime error.

I have tried everything that I have read online. I've tried changing the file numbers from (backup.1.exe, backup.2.fbw) to (backup.001.exe, backup.002.fbw). By doing that, I recieved a message saying that the (exe) file has stopped working. I've kept the files on an external hard drive, put each file on it's own DVD, and both on one DVD. I've tried those combinations in both safe mode and normal. I've tried deleting my Visual Basic, installing a newer Visual Basic, I've tried changing the file compatibility to XP. I've even tried three other XP machines and changing thheir compatibility to 95 and 2000. I think I've tried every one of those combinations.

All the problems that I've read about have been from last year (2007), so I'm hoping that there has been another newer fix that I am not aware of. If anybody has another fix, idea, or know of another program that will open those files, please let me know. I'm open to just about anything. I have some fairly important business files that I'd like to get to. Thanks.
