Before you'll grab Vista SP1 next month.. (compatibility)

Check this page of Microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935796 entitled "Information about programs that are known to experience a loss of functionality when they run on a Windows Vista Service Pack 1-based computer" before you allow installation of SP1. Make sure you check with the vendor of your program whether their software has no more issue with Vista SP1.

Today, the article shows below programs are blocked from starting after you install Windows Vista SP1:
BitDefender AV or Internet Security
Fujitsu Shock Sensor
Jiangmin KV Antivirus
Trend Micro Internet Security
Zone Alarm Security Suite

Then below programs do not run when you install Vista SP1:
Iron Speed Designer
Xheo Licensing
Free Allegiance

Next is.. Programs that have a loss of functionality after you install Windows Vista SP1:
NYT Reader
Rising Personal Firewall
Novell ZCM Agent

A nasty but necessary move for Microsoft...

I sense a major revision of Windows is under way. To have a service pack interrupt individual software function is a sign that something is being changed little by little. Eventually ending up with a rebuilt OS. Sensing pressure from Apple, they needed to ease in a completely new OS while affecting as few older programs as possible. A slow progression is Microsoft's answer. The reason why an instant change-over worked on a Mac (OS X) is because it didn't affect that many people, especially businesses. Microsoft's customer base is much more diverse, and therefore must be attended to much more carefully.

Keep the long-term positive changes coming, Microsoft. Hopefully..

You are right Whizzkid - Not many people own Macs - and very few businesses wish to limit their needs to a first rate visualiser but second rate computers with 3rd rate choices.

Thank goodness Windows eases in modifications and changes - it does seem to be a company which learns from past mistakes - XP-SP2?

I am sure Windows is undergoing major revisions - constantly - it is called dynamic support. Long may they continue to do so.

An Important Note

Please note that every single item on the incompatibility list is an OBSOLETE version of software for which updates are ALREADY available.

This is a very short list (quite surprisingly short in my opinion) and is certainly a lot shorter than what happened with the release of XP SP2.

Kudos to Microsoft.
