Desktop icons have annoying white box

I'm not talking about the shortcut arrow box, I increased the font size trough Personalization, now all my shortcut desktop icons have a white/transparent box around the outer edge. I can get rid of it if I go into display...advanced..icon...and then either increase or decrease the size of the icon. But isn't there an easier fix? Anyone?
