Upgraded from Vista Basic to Vista Home - and now NO SOUND

I recently upgraded from Vista Basic to Vista Home so I could connect my Marketplace to my XBOX 360. Well that worked, but now I have no sound. I checked and my drivers are updated when looking in Device Manager: SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC


Here is when I clicked "Web Help" from Windows Media Player (after I tried to play a song).

Original Error Code: C00D4E84
Original Error Message: No audio playback device was found.

It looks like you may need to download and reinstall the Sony "Drivers and Utilities" items from the Sony site. See the discussion at the link below:

deleted a file

I am experiencing exactly the same kind of problem but i encoutered it differently. I recently took a virus scan on my pc and found that a certain windows file was affected and so i decided to delete it. It was a windows file i remember, after this the sound on my pc disappeared and i recieve a message on the volume icon, that the audio service is not running. I think that the problem is not with the sound drivers as they indicate that they are working properly. The problem must be with windows itself. GOD bless you.

Find that file on another PC with the same OS and copy it to the right place.
