Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8 and MS Windows Vista

I have been using Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8 with Windows XP SP2 for two years and never had any trouble. I recently upgraded my OS to Windows Vista. After re-installing Paint Shop Pro 8, every time I opened the program I received a mesaage stating "Failed to update system registry" "Please try using REGEDIT". After clicking "OK" the program appeared to continue loading correctly and all was well until I opened a picture file and tried to edit the image, at which point the program would lock-up and I received a message saying the program was not working. The only option was to close the program and lose any changes made.
After numerous searches, the only solution I found was for Windows XP which advised changing certain system registry values to allow "Full" permission for the program. I tried that without success. I also uninstalled and re-installed Paint Shop Pro 8. That did not solve the problem either.
Finally, I used the "Program Compatibility Wizard" in MS Windows Vista (Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Use an older program with this version of windows) where I selected to run the program in Windows XP SP2 mode and I also selected to run the program as "Administrator". These settings seem to have solved the problem. I no longer receive the "Failed to update system registry" message when I open the program and the program no longer locks up when editing an image.
Please note that after making these changes, you will be prompted to "Continue" or "Allow" the program to run each time you open it. I hope this information will help others experiencing this problem.
