Windows Vista forum: Can I have the date displayed on the taskbar?

That didn't work (I'm running 64 bit windows, which may or may not be the reason) but I will try it again later. If anyone else knows of any other ways to do this, I would really appreciate it. I only wish I were as useful as John Wilkinson in the Cnet forums...

Thanks for the info! Hey, I know of a useful program that you might like; it's a fully customizable program that lets you set a scheduled alarm clock that wakes up your computer from hibernate, and opens a file (ie a playlist or anything). XP showed the date. Why not Vista? Why does MS move back with every iteration. Argh.

(And yes I know that moving my mouse over it shows the date -- not exactly improved functionality imho)

If you unlock the taskbar and grab the top and stretch it so it shows THREE rows of buttons (yes, this is a ton of screen space), it will show the date. It's a ****-poor workaround, but I figured I should mention it.

You COULD drag'n'drop the toolbar to make it twice as high. In that case the time AND the date and the day of the week would display. But then of course your toolbar is double the height and takes up more room. Just a thought...

<span>Found the instructions in Vista for the Taskbar. Mine was locked. Had to unlock it.

Right-click an empty area on the taskbar. If Lock the Taskbar has a check mark next to it, the taskbar is locked. Unlock it by clicking Lock the Taskbar, which removes the check mark.<span>

<span>Point to the edge of the taskbar until the pointer changes into a double-headed arrow, and then drag the border to make the taskbar the size you want.
