Horrific, repeating boot/startup blue screen problems

Hello, I bought a new HP a1730n with Vista Home Premium and it seemed to work fine for several weeks. Last week it started throwing "Windows has encountered a problem and must shut down" errors and would reboot. Eventually it stopped being able to reboot and I had to restore to March 2nd settings last night to get it to work. Worked ok for an hour or two now repeating bad performance but with all sorts of new errors: Norton Antivirus Auto-protect won't run, saying Auto-protect encountered a problem while starting up, Internet Explorer unable to run until multiple restarts and more. I have it all set to update automatically, have run Norton Antivirus successfully (no viruses found) and I am just getting so frustrated. Anybody else having these problems?
